What about where YOU work?

It's easy to criticize where other people work. What about where YOU work? What don't you like about it where YOU work? Or is it all peaches, cream and living the dream for you?

Uh oh, I sense multiple airline bashings coming :) No place is peaches, cream, and life is never as good as a dream. The grass is always greener type thing...

Yeah, the grass may be greener, but when you jump the fence, you may land in a pile of dog pooh.

Or sometimes it's not really greener, just gets mowed more often.

I'm a CFI.

Pro's:
Tons of students
Lots of flight time
Good Income
My own boss
Acuna, Mexico is 3miles from where I live

Con's:
I've soloed around 35people this year.... Any idea how much pattern work I've done.
Airforce never gives strait answers
I'm in the middle of the desert where any cute women already have 3 kids.
Same thing day in day out. As soon as you teach one you get another greenhorn...
Don't know anyone except my students.

I know you're talking regionals. But before you start bitching think about where I'm at or where you came from lol. Also, there isn't dog pooh on the other side of the fence. It's cow. That's why you always see cows with their heads through the barbwire. Because they are eating the grass that is greener on the other side.

Hey dude, God bless you for what you're doing to make life happen for you. As long as you're happy, it matters not. Though I do sympathize with the cute girls aspect :)

In all of the time I've been a pilot---from a student pilot to where I am now... that might be the best thing I've ever heard a CFI say!

Silver02ex 12-14-2006 02:34 PM

I work at Pinnacle, and I like where I'm at. I go to work, do my job, pick up my check and come home. If I hate it then i would find another job or another place to work. There might be some better regionals out there but Pinnacle seems to be fine for me.

This is very close to the what I add to the grass is greener cliche. The grass is always greener on the otherside...until you realize that it is fertilized with manure.

I really can't complain about where I work. We've got an awesome pilot group, and even first year pay is somewhat decent. About the only thing that sucks major monkey balls is having to commute from the west coast to the east coast... then again, that's self induced. :p

Illini 12-15-2006 05:34 AM

Can't complain about being an intern. I get a decent paycheck and enjoy learning as much as I can. Unfortunately, I know the end it near. In fact, its today. January 15th or so school begins and I dread taking those stupid classes.

Who is it that you work for?

flynavyj 04-27-2007 09:50 PM

If i had complaints, it'd be first year pay, and then what to look forward to for second year pay. And the potential for the whipsaw between us and our AltereGOJET.

Yeah, was awarded ONT for May. Finally on my last 4 day out of IAH. Terminal B will not be missed. Not gonna miss CLE either, but will miss timing out in the ballpark in the sEWR.

I commute out of SFO sometimes, OAK, SJC and SAC other times.

Superpilot92 04-28-2007 06:28 AM

I enjoy where i work, its been great so far. Pay has pretty much doubled each year here and I have been based in my Home town (IAH). Sure there is always something that could be better but I really cant complain. FWIW

I agree with ya, Super- we're in a great place for now. Hopefully we'll keep the prosperity going with branded, charter and DAL. :D

KingAirPIC 04-28-2007 08:35 AM

I fly for a private owner and it has its perks. For instance I fly the same aircraft everytime and I do 95% of the flying so I always know how it's treated and what its nuances are. The dissapointments are little flight time, 30-35 hours a month and having to be in town 7 days a week. Getting called out while I'm doing something else. The pay is only marginally better than regional pay.

2Lazy 04-28-2007 08:54 AM

Not to run off on another tangent, but I flew a corporate Lear, thought I was never going to move up to anything better, so I hit up the regionals, pinch nickle aka pinnacle and after about 6 months new there was no way I could financially afford to keep it up. Left PNCL for a captain job in a Lear, better pay, home more, but honestly I am always reminiscing about my time a PNCL and miss the flying and people (except scheduling). My point is, I am a very impatient person and if I would of just stuck out the pinnacle thing, I would have upgraded prior to my 1 yr anniversary and would be making the money that I needed to live. Sometimes its not always the smartest thing to keep "chasing" something new because you are pi**ed off about your job, it will get better simply by the attitude you bring to work. Of course other situations can make that very hard, but if you tell yourself before you go to work that you are happy to do what you love and are going to start off the trip with a great attitude. You will be amazed the difference that makes in your all around life... my 2 c.

Well thats good news! Are you able to hold a line?
The other day I flew into ONT on personal business and saw 5 XR's at the gate made me so proud, almost brought a tear to my eye...

Well se ya out there!

BoilerUP 04-28-2007 10:23 AM

I like everything about AWAC except the domiciles, total lack of willingness to accept any downside risk for growth, and company refusal to adequately address scheduling/QOL issues following the Great Migration East as well as a remedy for the Restructuring Grievance.

Oh yeah, and only having a couple segments longer than 1:45 sucks too...

higney85 04-28-2007 01:32 PM

I am at PNCL, I am from MEM- so it was a logical place to look into. I had a couple previous instructors get on here and enjoy it. Been here since last September- Pilot group is great, the plane is fun, we go kinda all over the place (if we could just do some west coast and mexico..), pay is the low end. I enjoy it though. Upgrade looks like it will still be here in under 2 years from getting hired, I am just hopeful for a contract......

kdoner 04-28-2007 05:05 PM

I work at a local fbo, its cool to be around everybody, but our boss just installed these cameras where he can watch anywhere with internet... i get calls all the time now... "why arent the planes in the hangar???" WHy are you watching tv?? Are you still clocked in?? Who is that in the corner??? gosh its like the Truman show w/ Jim Carey, except i know the cameras are there

JoeyMeatballs 04-28-2007 05:53 PM

Think of ugly FA's as birth control...you wouldn't want to father some sort of aviation troll that lives under jetways and flies for GoJets.

randalis 04-28-2007 08:11 PM

rofl try working in a warehouse with 1000 people and 950 are men the other 50 ARE trolls. You would learn to love the ugly f/a
