Default Bad timing for an NYC base?

In this ever changing, volatile industry we all love so much, where is someone who wants to live in NY/NJ to go today? It seems that the few options that are available all have several pretty significant turn offs compared to other companies without NYC bases, and commuting is a turn off in and of itself. Right now it looks like Skywest and Compass are the places to go, however commuting can negate the advantages these companies have over others making things seem just as bad as the rest of the pack. Lets look at the options for someone who wants to be based in NYC:

Eagle/Envoy: Highly uncertain fate, shrinking fleet, losing flying.
Expressjet: Doomed 50 seaters that United (or anyone else for that matter) doesn't want to fly anymore, AND theres still a chance (albeit small) you won't get the ERJ and lose the chance to get based in EWR at all!
Air Wisconsin: CPA with Airways expires in less than a year.
Republic: Employees seem quite unhappy (on this forum). Notorious for base closures.
Commutair: Very low pay.
Endeavor: Shrinking. Concessions just voted in.

Is it just me or is it really bad timing for New Yorkers? Some of these issues or questions look like they will be resolved/answered in the next year or two. (Eagle, Wisconsin, Expressjet may even have an idea as to whats in store for their future.) Maybe one should hide in plain sight until natural selection runs it's course? No wait, thats not right, because waiting is never a good idea in this game of never ending musical chairs. For the sake of this predicament lets avoid the "whoever calls you first" answer.

Also lets get the obvious out of the way. All regionals are poor companies to work for, there is no stability in contract work, no one can predict the future, the place to go today may not be the place to be tomorrow, why would you want to live in NY? We all get that. For someone in the job market who is ready to make a move TODAY and wants to be based in NYC, which company do you fellas think fares the best for a reasonable (relatively speaking) combination of QOL/money/stability, because I sure can't figure it out!

Without question go with Delta. . I do hear there are lots of openings at KTEB.

It's not so much a bad time for New Yorkers as it is just a bad time for regionals.

Not to sound like "TOTD" material, and I know that everyone has their reasons for everything but...being from the northeast, I moved out, and never looked back. I don't miss it, ever. I visit family, of course -- but every time I do, I wonder why they're still there.

Good luck; the airports are a mess and it's very expensive.

Maybe look into airlines that have easy commutes for you. DCA is simple to get to with Delta and USAir shuttles, plus jetBlue if that opens up any options for you.

Maybe a small beacon of light and some skeptical optimism, but Endeavor is in the process of significant growth in NYC. Enough so that it is expected NYC to be VERY junior. Yeah, the contract blows, but still isn't the worst, and our official fleet plan calls for shrinking yet there is so much room for change in the next few months that it could be an option for home basing. Now if you want pessimism I can certainly spin this another way as well...it could go either way. Uncertainty is the game of the regionals right now.

I'd say Eagle. That bonus money goes a long way to help get through the criminal first year pay. But yea my first suggestion would be get out of the Northeast. Without a sizeable second income it's not practical on regional airline pay.
