ATP Question

Situation, FO at Eagle and ended up being low time when the 1500 hour rule went into law in August. 300 hours short of 1,500 (ATR hired just before Chapter 11, so bottom guy when hired). So now I am on a LOA until I get the 1,500 and I can just walk back in. However, I just got hired by the 732nd Airlift Squadron out of McGuire on the C-17 for the USAF Reserve.

Now my question is, I took my ATP written in the fall of 2012. I know it is good for 2 years or under the new rule is it 5 years now? If I understand it correctly it is good forever if you work for a regional? If so, my real question is when I drop military leave on Eagle for the next 4-5 years, I will still be with Eagle just on leave, so is the ATP written still good indefinitely in the sense I am with Eagle?

If not I am thinking I should just retake it this June before I leave for OTS and have it good for 5 years if the new rule extends it for that length of time.

Thanks for the help guys. Vote NO Eagle friends

Same rules as before for part 121 and 135 pic checkrides

ATP Question

You may also want to look at Eagle's Ops Spec on that topic, as well. I'm a regional 121 guy myself, and I took my ATP written over three years before I was hired at my 121 carrier. However, due to a new exemption the company applied for, our ATP written's were good indefinitely, regardless when we took them

Read 61.39(a)(1)(i)+(ii)

Read 61.39(b) to improve your understanding. The FAA thought there might be people like you.

Take it in July but as you'll see reading 61.39(1)(ii) you'll only have 24 months to pass the checkride.

I think you're wrong after reading this. Meaning I have more than 24 calendar months. It seems it will stay good as long as I am with Eagle even if on a PLOA or Mil Leave (Have to look into that). Or if I am employed by the US Armed Forces which I will be at the time of the piratical test (flight portion I believe not the knowledge test)

"(b) Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs (a)(1) and (2) of this section, an applicant for an airline transport pilot certificate or an additional rating to an airline transport certificate may take the practical test for that certificate or rating with an expired knowledge test report, provided that the applicant:"

(1) Is employed as a flight crewmember by a certificate holder under part 121, 125, or 135 of this chapter at the time of the practical test and has satisfactorily accomplished that operator's approved—"

Or even this if I am not mistaken,

"(2) Is employed by the U.S. Armed Forces as a flight crewmember in U.S. military air transport operations at the time of the practical test and has completed the pilot in command aircraft qualification training program that is appropriate to the pilot certificate and rating sought."

Unless I am reading this all wrong? Just seems being employed by eagle even on Mil Leave and also being employed by the USAF as a C-17 Pilot will allow me to use an expired written.

I think the new ATP rule won't allow you to grandfather the ATP written in, but I have no idea.

Does anyone know the minimum age requirements for the ATP/R-ATP under the new rules?

Just think 5 years from now you may not even have to come back to a regional. Congrats on the Reserve job.
