hmm.....good find...i actually saw this on another aviation website

1 hotel room, another kick in the as-s.

I have a few questions....

1) If you had four hours, would you stay on the plane or go to the hotel room?

2) Is Mesa the only airline to do standup or continuous duty overnights?

3) Do pilots of airlines other than Mesa get tired while on duty?

Sure, this story is a great way to attack Mesa. I understand that is a politically correct hobby for many pilots. But what in this story is unique to Mesa, other than the hotel room thing (which granted is silly on their part)?

We have some lines that CDO. But from the sound of it, it's not as bad as MESA. Most of the time we have 7 1/2 hrs layover, but there was one time I had 5 (which is the minimum)

SKW CDO isn’t that bad, they average about 7+ hours in between end and show. After transportation to and from the airport, ironing clothes, shower, eating and just winding down before you fall asleep; you’ll end up with about 4-5 hours of actual sleep.

I’ve only flown 2 CDO in my time at SKW, it's not that common for CDO's to be on a line holders line. Both were not on my schedule and I pick it up on open time. 15 hours of duty, 2 hours of flying, 2 hours deadhead, time and a half, 7 ½ hours in between end and show (5 hours of sleep), easily commutable on both sides and paid 11.4 hours. NOT BAD! But be careful, if you have any delays the first day your time at the hotel will be severely reduced.

I do not bid them! I’ll just grab them off of open time if I have a long period in between trips.

Uhh........................ I don't think buying a hotel room solves the problem. They have to get rid of those schedules!! What the F is going on with that company. What good is a hotel room if you're only going to be there a few hours.

Yes and who wants to camp out in a hotel room with your flight crew? Mess-A is just TOO CHEAP! :(

reelbigchair 12-23-2006 06:47 PM

Whoever said they aren't that common for line holders to get CDO's at SkyW, isn't flying my trips next week. I hope in general he's right and I just got skrewed during this bid period. From Dec 26th til Jan 1st I'm scheduled to do 5 of them.

It's not going to change until the ALPA goes in front of Congress or House and pleads an argument on our behalf to require a 10 hour rest period...

Break it down, it's not that far fetched-

10 hour overnight after a 12+ hour duty day

30 mins to hotel
30 mins to check in, change, iron for next day
1 hour to get something to eat
30 mins to wind down
6.5 hours of sleep
30 mins to shower/dressed
30 mins for breakfast
30 mins to airport

Is that far fetched?

Probably.

I don't like them blaiming sleep for accidents they make. I could be a factor but I don't like them using them as scapegoats... However 6.5hrs is just fine.
