Regional Options

Got offered a late May class date with Republic. Received an offer from Compass with a class date to be determined (probably early fall). Have an interview with SKW coming up. What's a better option in this situation? I do live near Minneapolis. Thanks guys.

Whichever offers you an earlier class date for which you don't have to commute.

Also consider which airline flies fewer 50 seat A/C

Great work - stay away from the bottom feeders. Let them die on the vine

If you're near the Twin Cities with an offer in hand from Compass I'd easily turn down RAH. Not commuting is amazing.

In the meantime, go to the SkyWest interview and see if they offer you a date. If they do, and MSP is still junior on the jet, only then do you really have a choice to make. You can revisit that choice if and when SkyWest gives you an offer.

In the meantime, if your situation allows it make sure Compass recruiting knows you're available on short notice for any last minute openings in a class.

Regional based closest to your house. And preferably flies 50+ seaters.

As a 5 year Republic guy..........I say go to Skywest. I have a few buddies over there who love it. They treat their people well, decent pay and looks like their growth will keep them the top tier Regional for MANY years to come. Republic is the COMPLETE opposite of everything I just mentioned and worse. I can't speak for Compass but again I highly recommend Skywest. If I could do it over Skywest is where I would have gone!

I'd be tempted to wait out Compass as they have a much shorter upgrade. Would you get initially based in LAX though? How long for MSP?

If you can get hired at SkyWest, you'd probably be in class sooner and most likely would get MSP right out of training.

Just go to republic on an acft with no training contract then leave when compass calls.

Only to pay back the prorated amount of the hiring bonus and have to deal with scheduling on reserve, I HIGHLY do not recommend this option. I spent 3 1/2 years on reserve with this company and trust me your ARE a slave to anything they want you to do. I've even been deadheaded from PHL to Indy to sit reserve there while an Indy reserve was deadheaded to PHL to sit reserve there just so we couldn't sit reserve at home.......and no neither of us were used.

Compass with a fall date is pretty much gold if you live in MSP. 25% of the list will flow early next year meaning by this time next year you would probably be holding weekends off in base. Your quality of life anywhere else will be significantly worse.
