And IOE begins...

So my checkride is passed, and now I'm waiting for my call to begin IOE. Anyone have any good IOE stories?

I have plenty from my first round of IOE as a wet behind the ears 121 FO... But I don't want to spoil the fun for you! :D

After the sims, the checkride and the LOFT, you are going to sit there wondering what is going to happen next.. and then nothing does. The problem is getting the pacing down to do the NORMAL stuff.

Ask lots of questions. You will find out how good the training is and if there is any 'yeah, well that's the way they do it in the sim but this is the way we do it on the line' then there is a problem somewhere.. with the training, the line or the instructor. One hopes that does NOT occur.

Relax and enjoy the trip.

My first day of IOE consisted of being a passenger with the best seat in the plane :D

Still haven't finished IOE though... one three day trip and they never called me for more. Were my landings really THAT bad? :p

Anyway, seriously- read up on the FMS. Especially the ACARS menus. That little box will do some pretty wicked stuff if you know what to look for. It's still a $hitbox Honeywell (you're in the ERJ, right?), but it sure beats an E6B and doing W&B manually. :D

Oh yeah, and get used to "250 to the marker"... it's scary as hell the first time, but you get used to it. Just don't get chewed out by anycontrollers for slowing early.

ACARS? I've added it to the wishlist. Here at Trans States, the only planes we have with ACARS are on the United side. If you fly American or Airways, better remember to call in your times - or at least, TRY to call them in.
As far as our FMSes, we've got Honeywells in some planes, and Universals in others. I much prefer the Honeywells.

its an airplane, fly's like one also...however, you'll probably arrive at your destination on the first day, and mentally still be on the ramp at your departure city. You'll also be amazed at how fast the capt. wants you to get the airplane ready to turn again...atleast i was....believe he said...

"we're going to pushing back in 10 minutes."

to which i responded....

"no, we're not."

and him.

"oh yeh, we are...whether you're ready or not."

You don't want ACARS. You'll notice the amount of money you make on a trip will diminish significantly with it ;)
