FAR 117 has not changed the required pilots at most mainline carriers. If anything, it has reduced the need for pilots. Thanks to the 2 hour extensions and not including post flight in the flight duty periods, we can now work longer than before. FAR 117 is a step back in fatigue limits.

Not true at US Airways. We increased staffing by about 300 positions for the phasing in of FAR117.

That's because your contract was the worst in the industry. You should be embarrassed by that, not proud of it. There are US Airways pilots that are excited that the 190 is going junior. To me, it's disgraceful.

Explain to me how our admittedly inferior contract caused this, and why I should be ashamed of 300 more mainline position added to the seniority list. Explain it to me as if I were a five year old.

Okay, my apologies clamp. I eat crow on this one. I read your post that you were saying that there would be 60k AVAILABLE positions. My bad.
BUT, I still don't believe(and never will) of a shortage at the legacy level. There won't be a shortage, but there will be a tremendous amount of movement. |
