LIRR workers get 17% raise and averted strike
MTA chairman, LIRR union leader sign contract to avert strike; workers get 17% raises - NY Daily News
They haven't had a contract since 2010. Finally agreed when LIRR threatened to strike. So I guess the railroad act is only there to prevent regionals from achieving decent contracts. Railroad workers apparently didn't mind striking. |
RLA only applies to interstate commerce railroads.
|
Also, as far as I know, the LIRR has not reported a profit in 180 years of existence.

Regardless of profit or not, the city depends on them so massively that the State would never let them strike. It would cause massive chaos , where as if a single carrier striked in JFK , oh well operations would just keep running . Another carrier would fly the routes

They are getting a 17% raise over 6.5 years, or ~2.66% a year, which is a pretty standard raise.
We are very lucky as airline pilots in that when we do get a raise, it usually beats inflation. |

To be fair, they are part of the Metropolitan Transit Authority, which runs the buses, subways, along with Metro North. None of it makes a profit.

Yes they're a public utility now, but it didn't start that way... Believe they were private until the 1930s or so.

Maybe I'm just bitter because I'm extorted to the tune of $1500+ a year to pay for this crap. |

None of it makes a profit. How can they make a profit when they pay their employees so well with excellent benefits? They also rape the public on bridge and tunnel tolls! Crooks, ALL of them, from the top on down. If you want to see the most incompetently run and most wasteful use of of taxpayer funds, look no further than the MTA and Port Authority of NY/NJ. If they were private entities run with any hint of accountability, they would have been bankrupt and out of business many years ago. Instead, we have the bloated, corrupt mess we see today.
