American Eagle base question

I have an interview at American Eagle on the 15th, and was just looking for some more insight into life on the line. How is life down in San Juan? Everyone seems to dread getting that assignment, but it is really that bad? I was talking to my wife and we thought it might be an interesting place to spend a little time, and introduce the kids to something a bit different than what they are used to. Or am I more likely to get some other base? Also any tips or hints for the interview, I've been reading up on the gouges and studying hard. Thanks.

Wow, my very first post, I hope it's worthy :)

That attitude, will get you hired anywhere in the world. You should look at Cathay Pacific's SO program, that's an adventure. HK rocks.

If you have a family there, SJ isn't bad.

thanks, relocation is all part of the game, as far as I understand. At this point, it's not worth it to me to commute anywhere, so I plan on moving where I need to. Obviously some places are more desirable than others, but might as well make the best of it until I get up the seniority list far enough to be more choosy.

Seriously, if you've got a supportive family (by supportive I mean up for the adventure) and treat where ever you start as a vacation with a little work you'll be happy most anywhere.

And you can probably extract huge quantities of alcohol from your classmates by taking a SJ slot.

Seriously though, if you have the mins, look at Cathay and Singapore Airlines, they both have programs to grow junior folks. With Cathay you'll come back to the US after you make FO.

I'll check into those. I've looked briefly at Cathay, but I thought they wanted lots of hours, unless I missed something. I'm at 1400 tt and 550 multi. My wife would like to stay close to family (California) but likes to travel. She knew what she was in for when we got married, so I'm lucky she is so supportive. We have some friends in the Dallas area, so the DFW base for American Eagle would be nice.

San Juan with kids could be really good or bad, depending on how old they are. If they're school-age, going there for a year might be really hard on them, as it would be a huge adjustment. You could probably get MIA almost immediately, so moving to FL and just commuting to SJU until you can hold MIA might not be a bad way to go.

If your wife wants to stay in CA, Skywest would definately be the place to try to get on. Better QOL than Eagle, much quicker upgrade, better FO pay after the first year.

Skywest is definately on my list, I wouldn't mind cruisin in a Brasilia for awhile, though an RJ would be better. I'll have to get working on my application for them too.

Anyone know what the junior bases for American Eagle are these days? I remember seeing something about it on another post, but don't remember which one. Since that is the interview I have coming up, they are the company I am focusing on right now.

thanks, looks like some good insight.
