Default Regionals uncertain future.

Always stating the obvious but never a solution.

Regional airlines not sharing in majors? success | Dallas Morning News

A couple of quotes below.

"She recently predicted that Envoy and SkyWest’s ExpressJet unit could be shut down as the sector consolidates."

“It’s not Delta’s problem, it’s not United’s problem, it’s not American’s problem — it’s Republic’s problem.”

Regionals uncertain future.
I disagree, I see a certain future.

20k mainline retirement over the next 10 years with 22k regional pilots available. Do the math.

I'm certain that I don't want regional airlines to exist in the future.

There's nothing uncertain about it.

Who gives a damn whether the regionals will be around or not. Get in, get out, and go to a major so you can get paid and party like a rockstar!

Some of you guys need to discover porn or get laid. There's more to life than worrying about the future of the regionals.

Don't party like a rock star.

The HIMS Program is busy already.

40% of that is Military hires. Plus 20% cargo, corporate, fractional, foreign hires. There are a lot of dream chasers out there. Look at all the people coming back in the industry that have been out for years. All wanting a shot at the "big time."

sooo 8000 jobs or about 800 per year. Yep.. seems about right. There are a lot of delusional people out there that think regionals are a golden ticket and they will sell out their colleagues to get ahead. A lot of movement in regionals is for people leaving for LCCs. They too are trying to improve their chances. Get real, not everyone can be a widebody captain doing international legs. I am not a regional lifer either.

Your numbers are a little off.

U.S. GAO - Aviation Workforce: Current and Future Availability of Airline Pilots

currently they estimated roughly 30 percent come from the military
Embraer forecast resulted in a projection of about 2,900 new pilots needed per year over the next decade; the Boeing forecast resulted in about 3,300 new pilots, and the Airbus
forecast resulted in about 3,900 new pilots. It is important to note that these forecasts encompass the entire North American market and are not specific to the United States. In addition, the Boeing forecast projected demand for 498,000 new airline pilots worldwide over the next 20 years.
I also think its the other way around, people are not getting back into the industry, they are leaving it for more stable careers.
