Default 9E's Retention Bonus - A Mirage in the Desert

It sure seems that history is repeating itself once again. Perhaps Endeavor isn't on the same flight plan as ComAir once was, but they sure seem to be related, much like fraternal twins.

Could these retention bonuses just be a carrot, or mirage in the desert, to keep the airline going until next fall's DAL flight schedule comes out and there is enough 717's to take over the 900 flying?

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see a memo this summer stating that due to staffing and logistical problems, the airline will wind down the operation and meet ComAir in the history books.

With the ramping up of other regionals, who are taking large bites out of Endeavor, the possibility is now a reality.

Guys - don't think I'm crazy, because THE PILOTS OF ENDEAVOR TOOK OVER THE ROUTES AND AIRCRAFT OF COMAIR.

Endeavor helped EAT ComAir alive, and now another regional will EAT Endeavor.....

You know what Ryan Gumm does best? Looks at Freedom Air and Comair and you will find your answer.

The EtD thing didn't last very long, so yeah I probably wouldn't hang your hat on a retention bonus...unless the company posts a bond to ensure it gets paid.

I know.

They have done absolutely nothing to address the problem of hiring new people. We need real movement and better pay to attract anyone here.

Nothing but bandaids to keep people here for a short amount of time.

They kicked the dog too hard and it smells like Comair.

I guarantee you, there will be pilots at Endeavor who are in denial that what happened to Freedom and ComAir cannot and will not happen here.

These same pilots will bypass job opportunities at Allegiant, Frontier, Kalitta and many other Tier 2 airlines, while holding out for the holy grail job at a a Legacy airline.

These losers will be rudely awakened when they become jobless and start getting their cars repossessed and file bankruptcy.

You really believe this or are you being sarcastic? First year pay is now the highest in the industry and getting rid of the EtD they can hire everyone that applies. How does this smell like Comair? I don't think they are in shutdown mode yet, Comair was offered bonuses knowing they were shutting down. If they decide to shut it down then there will have to be another round of severance bonuses to get people to stay until the end like they did at Comair. The way it went down at Comair and what is happening now are totally different scenarios playing out. If they can show a clear path to Delta for FO's with whatever they have planned, show ANY growth this year and get the upgrade times down then 9E will have turned a corner. It appears to me on the surface that this current TA is an honest attempt to make Endeavor viable. It could blow up in their face and in my opinion doesn't offer enough incentive to get people to come/stay but it is a start. We'll just have to see how it plays out, of course we could be getting played but we are regional pilots, every pilot in the industry is getting played on one level or another.

I haven't believed they were shutting us down, but all I see are bandaids to slow a mass exodus. Nothing to create a good place for people to work.

You really think people are going to scramble to come to 9E now?

We are still losing airplanes, when are people going to start upgrading around here?

Endeavor will be viable after they staple us, and we all know when that will happen.

100%!

If you really think that Delta is going to hire FOs from a regional airline in any sort of large numbers your out of your mind... And then a 30K retention bonus that takes 3 years to get and after taxes will be torn up.
Nothing like saying I'm an 11 year 9E FO because I got a 30K bonus and an interview at Delta which will be contingent on upgrading ha ha!

We've already been over the tax thing, not sure why people are having such a hard time wrapping their head around it. It is taxed at the same rate as all your earnings. And it isn't 3 years, it is 2 years, missing these small details doesn't make your opinion seem very credible. Where else can a regional FO easily go and make that kind of money over the next two years? You are basically at the top end of the pay scale for regional FO's. Yes, it was money that was stolen from us in court but at least some of it is coming back.

People can rip apart the SSP all they want but ask the 220 pilots at Delta how it worked out for them, what other airline has sent that many pilots to Delta? I'll withhold my judgment on the FO interview plan until the details are announced. I agree, it probably won't be that good of a deal and I can't see it working out for a lot of FO's but you never know. Delta still has the ability to throw more resources at Endeavor and make it a desirable place to work.
