Well.......not to get into the ****ing match but I kinda agree...As a captain who's been upgraded and downgraded and upgraded and downgraded what seat you sit from really doesn't make a big difference unless you have a small .......... and a god complex.... when I was a captain sure more rides on you and people look more to you for answers when the cluster F hits the fan IE (weather, deicing, boarding with MX yada yada yada) but if you have been and FO for 3+ years or more you have a good Idea whats going on, and can make a sound and safe decision. That being said you will always learn something new regardless of how long you have been a captain or FO.... there is always something else to learn or do better.... being humble also goes along way in a cockpit... We fly the same routes as mainline with the same passengers into the same exact HUBS flying more sophisticated aircraft at below poverty wages... I might add I mean gezus.....we have all shot approaches to mins and cat11 and we all push on the auto pilot.... pretty sure any FO with 3+ years can do the same job as a mainline pilot, and maybe better we do fly every other leg just like mainline! We also wear the same stupid outfit! Most captains at the regionals are way more laid back...... they believe in helping raise up the FO's into captains instead of bringing them down and telling them they don't know how to fly..... really??????? I mean a great captain will help FO's become safe captains by involving them in the decision tree, if there is a disagreement they talk about it and why.....so the other party can learn to make safe and sound decisions for your family! As you and your family are on your retiree passes getting you wherever safely! We are the next generation of mainline pilots like it or not!!! Your job while still there is to encourage and help bring up and train pilots to be at a "higher standard" although we take the same check rides and fly the same routes just a little different procedures!

You're the reason why so many mainline pilots have such horrible reputations and why you are chided and made fun of on guard and in the terminal over and over and over again. People like you offer nothing to society except a huge ego and and the acute ability to make everyone around you absolutely miserable with your baseless opinions and general statements that make little to no sense.

I'm sure that before you made it to mainline you put in thousands upon thousands of hours in the trenches of some horrible regional or fly by night cargo operator flying airplanes with no autopilot in severe weather for $25.00/day with no per diem and in that time was NEVER given a lucky break in your career by getting quick upgrade and/or having a lucky seniority position during a massive growth period. If you were former military then I'm sure you entered the part 121 world knowing FAR MORE about an airline operation than a 121 RJ FO with 5,000 hours SIC will ever know, because, after all, according to you, the only worthwhile time is PIC time...SICs just sit there barely able to fly the airplane, let alone make a decision. You're a disgusting person and you're likely hated by just about everyone you come in contact with.


PS: I bet you're the kind of person who when asking for a Jumpseat you completely and totally ignore the FO...after all, he/she is a total idiot, right? Why shake their hand and introduce yourself? They aren't apart of the crew at all, in fact the flight attendant knows more than the lowly FO.

We do not know if 9E will be Comaired.

We do not know what the plans for 9E are.

We can only go by what suits our needs now.

We can not rely on promises to position ourselves for the future. A flow might disappear. You can only take those actions that make sense now, or actions that may help you in the future but cannot be taken away. For instance, PIC time you acquire now may help you get hired in the future and once you have it, it is not lost in a bankruptcy or "wind down" as promises are.

The self proclaimed mainline pilot who says that "FOs are just along for the ride" is obviously an idiot, delusional, emotionally immature, and a below average leader.

I agree that PIC time helps develop a pilot's skills. I agree that it helps him to be a better FO, having seen the job from another perspective. Perhaps mainline should hire regional PICs before hiring regional SICs? I'm sorry that mainline interviews and rejects so many PICs and then is reduced to interviewing regional SICs far sooner then they ought to have and before they have a chance to upgrade. That is a problem caused by mainline, who were in control of the big picture the entire time. Want mainline new hires to have PIC time? Tell mainline to go back and hire the PICs with flawless records and tons of experience that they already rejected.

+1 agreed. I Don't think erdude understands that many of the fo's at the regionals have extensive backgrounds and are better suited to be captains than many of the captains they fly with.

I tell others "you know why I'm a captain? Because I'm very fortunate to get hired when I did - that's why!" Seniority in this environment is what gets a person in this a spot in the left seat - not so much expertise. Needless to say there are some who don't make the cut as captain. There are some who shouldn't be captain, but they are due to seniority giving them that capability to hold. There are some who are very good at being captain, and there are some who would be good at it and can't hold it.

My first year as a captain was a big learning curve, but what is the difference in being a captain on a 717 Vs a Crj-9 Other than a few more passengers? What makes a good captain is if they have the management skills, have built a good foundation in their training, good flying skills, and good decision making. Nothing can take the place of actually doing it, but we all can do it well if we build a good foundation.

Just my professional opinion as a six+ year left seat driver.

All of you 121 regional CAs that responded to this guy: you are the ones who let guys like me learn to make decisions, even as an FO. Thanks, you are top notch folks. For every CA I ever flew with that taught me what not to do, each of you taught 10x that amount. hope you guys have moved on or do soon.

Wow, where do I begin? You and Delta1067 are exactly why I never applied at Delta. I couldn't stand flying around with guys like you. You are stuck so far up your own a*ss how the hell can you even tell which side is up?

I recently moved on from the left seat of a regional to a major. After spending over 7 years in the right seat and a year left seat, I can tell you from experience your ASSumptions are way off base.

Even though your statements are directed at others, you are shining the light on your lack of experience, confidence, or prospective. Try worrying more about yourself. You have plenty to work on.
