Great Mistakes

Firsttimeflyer 12-14-2014 10:43 AM

All of them.

cal555 12-14-2014 10:45 AM

Interesting question to ask...

You know, if you type in "lowest first year pay airline" into google, there are whole articles written about it.

Actually, Great Lakes' first year pay is not higher than SkyWest, and is one of the highest in the industry.

Still a terrible place, but first year pay is pretty high.

APC must be out of date then. They list it at 16/hr. That is pretty low.

It is ~$40/hr.

APC is pretty outdated on many of the regional pages. Pay, # of aircraft, # of pilots, etc... are mostly outdated. In their defense, however, it would be a full time job to keep those all up to date.

Just curious, what is your reason for asking? Making any kind of employment decision based on first year pay is like buying a car based on the size of the rebate.

$40/hr? Since when? Even is APC is outdated I feel like that would have been made common knowledge by most people on here if that was true prior to now.

I thought it was 27.something.

You are correct.

ubo, my reason for asking is to compare it to the poverty line.

My CA friend at mesa told me that his FO took home a check for zero dollars? I find that hard to believe. He claims after he pays for his insurance for the family he is left with nothing. Single FOs at mesa must take home a few hundred dollars a month right?

With a family on your insurance--yes, take-home pay will come out to around $0.

Our health insurance is the worst--not even worth the mirage of a fast uprgrade people hitting property now are pipe-dreaming of.

Wowsa!!! That was unbelievable when he told me...hell most of the stuff he tells me that goes on over there I can't believe. Well hopefully the kids signing up have their parents or spouses insurance.

tom11011 12-16-2014 04:55 AM

Years back, Mesa FO's used to go grocery shopping together in uniform and pay with food stamps.

A friend working for them showed me the insurance plans, actually one doesn't even make enough to pay for some of the family plans...more than $800 per pay check! Very sad!

Unless you have something catastrophic happen, paying cash to see the doctor is way cheaper. Even if you end up with a 2k ER bill, the hospital cuts it in half if you don't have insurance.

Isn't that why people buy Hybrids?

But, but, upgradez?!?

Seriously this is just plain sad, not even funny.

I'm not trying to defend Mesa's horrible pay and benefits, but I am curious to know what other regional pilots pay for insurance premiums for say, a family of four.

Aside from teachers, military, and government employees, it seems most pay a good amount of coin to insure a family. At least that's been my experience at different jobs I held before coming to the regionals. Insuring yourself is affordable, add a dependent and it gets pricey. Throw a couple of kids into the equation and that's when it goes through the roof.

FlyingLow77 12-16-2014 09:45 AM

9E about $360 per month for family HRA. Company funds a $1000 to a reimbursement account with total out of pocket max of $3200 for the family.

There is a OAP at about $640 per month. Not sure of the out of pocket details and such, but HRA is generally a better deal.

Our part of the premium is 25% of the total cost of the insurance.

tom11011 12-16-2014 10:03 AM

Sounds like Obamacare might be a better deal.

NewPil0t 12-16-2014 11:09 AM

If you wanted good H/C benefits, should've joined PDT. Only 18% contribution.

Disclaimer: It'll climb from 23% to 35% starting 2016 thru 2020. (if we get those jets)

Stepping foot in the ER is about $2k. Anything major, and you are bankrupt with this strategy.
