SkyWest group interview
I know there was a thread just last week regarding this....but out of 31 posts one 1 was actually on topic... the rest degenerated in the usual "my regional is better than yours" argument.
I read that the "HR" portion of the interview is normally conducted during the group interview. Does that include the technical part as well? What about the ATP and mechanical aptitude tests? How long does the HR or technical part last (approx)? If anyone attended one of these open houses lately, and would care to expand, that would be greeaaaaat. Thanks in advance. |
To add to palgia841:
1. Does your 1st class medical have to be in its 1st class state? I have a 1st that just downgraded this month to a 2nd, does that count? 2. Complication #2: I lost my passport, can a birth certificate suffice? 3. Who could I contact to ask these questions? Thanks guys. |

Bring the BC, but they require the passport due to international ops so you should apply for a new passport and bring the reciept showing that you have applied. Also you cannot jumpseat without a passport these days. 3. Contact whoever emailed the interview info. |

How long the the interview lasts often depends on you...if you answer their questions correctly it will probably be short. If they have to dig, it could drag out  The SKW interview is not a brief formality like some other regionals. |
I went to a meet and greet and they didn't do any formal interviews. Never asked for anything other than a resume, although I had all other paperwork regardless. The HR was just required questions such as, "have you ever been arrested" etc... I told them a little about my past experience and thats about it. whole thing took 5 mins.
The actual interview in SLC was ALL day. The HR was done during my tech interview and when he found the paperwork with the required HR questions from the meet and greet he skipped right to the tech. There were lots of people at this interview so my tech portion was less than an hour. The mechanical aptitude and ATP tests were given out 1st thing and we had all day to work on it as people were called out to be interviewed. There was a lot of sitting around so you'll have plenty of time to do the test. Make ABSOLUTLEY sure you have ALL required paperwork. This means COPIES. There was someone who was asked to leave because he didn't have copies. He had all the originals but no copies. Its the easiest way to weed out people who can't follow simple directions. As far as what they want for the actual interview in SLC, here is a list. Taken directly from the email. · Log books with endorsements and pertinent information · Current Resume · College transcripts (I gave them a copy, not original) · DD-214 for military personnel · Fill out online application at www.skywest.com (you do NOT need to bring a copy) · All documentation regarding any incident/accident(s) Including any documentation from the FAA Originals and Copies of: · Current First Class Medical · Drivers license · Social Security Card · Airman certificates · Passport · FCC Restricted Radiotelephone Operator license I think I've rambled enough. Hope this helps. |
RickAir's point remains the same, the open houses can be very very different depending on the day, prep for the whole interview just in case. Worst that will happen is that you'll have prepared early than you needed to. Also they do get grumpy if your first class has slipped to a second class. And that will be the first thing they'll notice about you when they open your file. Not the first impression you want to make.

this might be a dumb question... but where and how do you get the FCC license? been wondering about that one.

Follow the instructions, bone up $50 bucks, and yes, you, you can have your very own FCC Radio Telephone Operators License, FOR LIFE!!! Basically, its a way for the FCC to make $50. Checko |
You can get it online for 60 bucks by going to www.fcc.gov
the system is clunky and user unfriendly. After your application is approved (took one day) you can print out a reference copy of the license. This was an acceptable copy at the Skywest interview for me. They will mail the actual license in 5 days or so. Found a better link. Takes you right to the license and walks you through the process of obtaining it. http://wireless.fcc.gov/commoperators/rp.html |
I was recently at the Chicago Job fair on the 10th. There was a presentation on the company followed by Q&A. They collected our resmue and did the HR interview. From there if all go's well they will invite you out to SLC for your formal interview. I scheduled an interview date and recieved an email the same day with conformation of day, time, what to bring, and where to stay. Seatownflyer's post above says it all. Skywest is in need of Pilots but will not relax there interview to cover there numbers they need. If you get a chance to go to an open house, DO IT! You get to meet the interview staff (Great People) an find what they are looking for! You will feel more relaxed when you get out to SLC, I know I will be!
