Credit Score/History and Hiring

Anyone have any info on how much the regionals dwell into credit histories and scores when it comes to the hiring process? Has anyone ever been offer a cond. offer of employment and then had that withdrawn after they ran the pria, credit, background etc. due to unpaid credit cards, medical bills, etc?

FaceBiter 12-28-2014 11:16 PM

Pay yer bills.

Honestly, if I were making the calls I'd axe people who either tried to make excuses or had a horrendous credit report.

well...there's always the bottom feeders. Bueno Luck!

As far as I know they don't look into
credit histories at all..

Pretty much any regional airline will be overjoyed that you submitted an application at this point.

Don't worry about it. My driving record was crap when I got hired. Do what you can to improve it in the future.

That's why you don't make the calls...!

I know plenty of outstanding guys who have filed for bankruptcy preotction recently. They are now at Delta. If they ask just be honest.

The most disturbing thing is that an employer can violate your privacy in this manner at all!

snippercr 12-29-2014 05:22 AM

Ohhh THIS debate again... it's been a few years actually I think so might as well let it play out.

Some of the wealthiest people I know have the worst credit.

Think about it for a second.

Regionals don't check your credit, they check your pulse...

You should have been more diligent in your search for a spouse.

Quite common.

Many (not all by any means) wealthy people got that way because they're sociopaths so paying old debts because it's the right thing to do is not going to be high on their list.

It's also financially prudent in many cases to borrow money even if you could pay cash...that way the risk is on someone else.

And if you're rich enough and in a high enough position in society your credit score is mostly irrelevant so there's no need to sweat it. Pilots need clean driving, medical, criminal, and health histories...none of that applies to CEO's.

There's a clear and reasonable precedent that *some* jobs require folks with a history of financial prudence and responsibility...particularly folks who handle/control money.

But it's not really *your* privacy...you made an agreement and than failed to follow through...the person who was on the losing end of that is certainly free to make that info available to others with an interest in knowing. I think employers have a fair right to know this sort of thing so they don't hire crooks or irresponsible people. Now that said, the employer should have a due diligence to consider the circumstances...someone who got caught up in a bad divorce or housing bubble situation should not really be lumped in with crooks and serial credit abusers.

But many or most majors probably do. Take the regional job, then you'll have seven years to rebuild your credit score.

Moonwolf 12-29-2014 07:41 AM

Current credit scores required by regional airlines:

Horizon: 800
Air Wisconsin: 775
Skywest: 750
Envoy: 720
PdT: 700
Mesa: 420
PSA: 400

I would just have to tell them that is like the pot calling the kettle black . Hasn't like every major airline filed bankruptcy . ... Hmmmm

mojo6911 12-29-2014 12:01 PM

A regional condemning a pilot for bad financial choices? That's rich.

Well, there is a reason they call that section of your credit report "public records"

Just saying
