Comair mins increase...

Mins are now 1200/200, or is it? I was looking forward to apply.

The web site still indicates 600/100. Seems odd they would increase minimums if all the regionals are hurting for pilots.

Speedbird172 01-15-2007 10:12 AM

Weird...APC page indicates 600/100, and Comair site is the same. But if you go to the APC page and click on the link, it takes you too a page that has airlineapps in the web address, and there it indicates 1200/200. I would guess they probably haven't updated that part yet.

PS The actual Comair site still has the hours listed in bold so that would seem pretty official.

AHHH MAANNNN,, you mean you still need some experience at just flying an airplane... i cant just get my commercial certificate and go straight to the jet. I have to instruct (and learn), and then get a job flying mail around in a baron?? OMG THE WORLD IS ENDING.. i thought i could just get my certificate and go straight to the plane.. of course i knew i would have to rent a cessna and fly it around a while so when i went to upgrade I would have the PIC i need to qualify,,but hey that is being deffered too!!!! YIPPPEEEE,, LOWER TIMES,, LOWER STANDARDS,, AND NOW THEY WANT TO RAISE IT TO SOMETHING RESPECTABLE!!!! HOW DARE THEY!!!

sadly the first time you are really even PIC (no instructor on board, not day vfr, and more than the measly 50 miles you have been flying to count as cross country) there will be people in the back of the plane depending on you.

It seems like the lower mins are really bothering you, perhaps old memories? I‘m sorry that times have changed and airlines are lowering their mins for now.
FYI, new mins(if true) only set me back about 3 months. Not so shabby!

no not really. I instructed for about 1200 hours and flew mail for about 6 months. I just like to laugh at people who have to go rent a 152 just so they can get PIC,,, hahahahahahahaha.... ohh. its actually kinda scary.

which part,, the scary part? no.. some of the guys i have flown with still make pic decisions like they are in a 152

Vader 01-15-2007 11:21 AM

The 152 rental part.

Airsupport 01-15-2007 11:23 AM

no,, unless you have enough pic you cant get your atp. A lot of guys who go the quick route only have 120 hours or so of pic. not the required 250 needed. so some have to go out and actually fly a cessna around just so they can upgrade. see, now isn't that silly, funny, scary?

flynavyj 01-15-2007 05:43 PM

thought it was 500 pic to get an ATP? been a while since i've looked @ regs though.

I wouldn't waste my time there. Chances are they won't be around much longer

14 CFR 61.159
(a) Except as provided in paragraphs (b), (c), and (d) of this section, a person who is applying for an airline transport pilot certificate with an airplane category and class rating must have at least 1,500 hours of total time as a pilot that includes at least:

(4) 250 hours of flight time in an airplane as a pilot in command, or as second in command performing the duties of pilot in command while under the supervision of a pilot in command, or any combination thereof...

These times are for an FAA ATP. The reality is far more worse for the low-timers...

Any airline that does international ops (ie canada & mexico) must use captains who meet ICAO ATP mins...this requires 1200 PIC, or right around there. More and more regionals are getting into this, and they are obviously changing their upgrade requirements.

I was laughing my *******ing @ss off at mesa when they instituted this requirement and all the MAPD folks who were about to upgrade were told they had to go back and and be an FO for another 1-3 years. :D

garritto 01-15-2007 08:28 PM

I'm a new hire at Comair and can assure you that minimums are still 600 and 100. I've heard of some getting interviews with less than 100 multi....so it doesn't hurt to apply.

For all you dooms dayers out there, comair isn't going anywhere. Sure we have some challenges ahead, but this is truly a good time to get on with this airline.

there you go, so if your a 250 mesa pilot development wonder at a 121 airline and you did not get your PIC the right way, you can still use your 121 time to get your ATP

flynavyj 01-15-2007 09:29 PM

think the 500 hrs i was thinking off was from the x/c requirement...heck, i think i had 250 pic before i even started instructing.

Most of us had 250 before we started instructing. Even then we had time as pic before we started to take someone elses life as our responsability. Thats why i laugh because the 250 rule can be thrown out too,, they are doing everything they can to keep times low and people unexperienced.

Lobmoth1 01-18-2007 04:23 PM

Yeah, their mins are down to 600/50 I'm pretty sure. I'm at 1100/80 and have an interview the 23rd. Definitely apply, can't hurt right?

Unless you go to Comair because SkyWest didn't call you soon enough, Comair goes belly up in a year, you go to SkyWest and now are a year behind the guys who waited a few more months to go to SkyWest. There are plenty of guys here at XJT who jumped at the first regional to offer them a job and are now a few hundred numbers junior to me on the list. I don't blame them, I would've done the same thing but I got lucky and can appreciate hindsight.

When are you leaving for CVG?

Speedbird172 01-21-2007 08:25 PM

Lobmoth where did you hear 600/50? 50 multi seems pretty low, I would've figured 100me is pretty much the low bar across the board besides ASA's posted 800/50. Either way good luck with your interview, I have a friend in training currently, he loves it so far.

Lobmoth1 01-26-2007 11:25 AM

I got 600/50 off airlineapps.com, the interview (Jan. 23rd) went great and unless the worst case scenario happens and Comair goes belly up, I can't see why it'd be a bad place to work. Yeah 50 is fairly low but they're hiring like crazy and it sounds like they'll take just about whatever they can get. They told us they need to hire 450 pilots by April... almost hard to believe.

saxman66 01-27-2007 08:58 AM

I just turned in my app last night and got an email two hours later to interview. And I'm at 700/60. I was pretty surprised actually. So go ahead and apply if you haven't. Not sure if I'm going to take it given all this contract talk, when I can just wait for someone else, who I'd rather work for anyways.
