Default Timing is everything - PR campaigns

How do you know ALPA is in airline mgmt's back pocket?

Simply answer a question with a question.

Why isn't ALPA conducting a nationwide advertising campaign buying billboard ads close to all major airports that say....

Did you know the co-pilots on your budget Regional Airline flight are required to have a 4 year college degree AND $100K in licensing/experience??

Did you also know they are paid less than $22k starting salaries??
Every person off the street I talk to about this both can't believe it and think it's outrageous.

PR works. It generates buzz. It gets people talking. And they start asking executives and managers very uncomfortable questions....especially when it's announced those executives are getting big, fat bonuses at a time of huge airline profits.

Why isn't ALPA informing the public and getting public pressure put on airline mgmt's? Who does ALPA really work for?? Isn't ALPA supposed to represent all it's members equally, not just it's most senior members??

Nah first year pilots are not truly represented by the union

I'd argue 2-5 yr pay is woefully inadequate too.

Are we doing this again?
Yes. Circumstances change, like industry profitability. And public perceptions.

That's an easy one. It's because nobody cares. People only care about low fares. They may seem shocked and appalled for 2 minutes, but in the end they don't care. Half of these people would have surgery at walmart when it becomes available.

Only regional pilots can fix this, but they choose not to. It's obvious. Regional pilots only care as much as b*tching in forums, but when it comes time to actually doing something about it, they're just not that interested.

Hah! Discouraging future pilots? From the union that brought us this website?

Cleared To Dream > Home

Almost every professional organization in the world has figured out that supply and demand is what controls wages. They can't control demand so they control supply by creating barriers to entry for the profession. Not ALPA though.

Actually I saw a billboard campaign very much like this idea. I think it was for Eagle, a couple years back, in MIA or MCO if I remember correctly.

Saw one like that in O'Hare for Eagle around '11 too. But sadly I agree with the earlier post about the public's apathy.

The pay issue is not just an Eagle, Endeavor, Expressjet, Skywest , etc. issue. The pay issue affects all of the regionals. Anyone know what the legalities are regarding all of us standing together in demonstration? Before anyone gets their shorts in a bunch, I'm not talking about a work stoppage but a show of solidarity among the regional carriers. It seems that we all agree that pay is horrible. 19000 voices in unison are hard to ignore.
