RAH: Any difference in choosing a 170 or 145?
Hi. This isn't the only company I applied for, and I did use the search function. I am not decided which airline I will work for yet. Apologies in advance if I missed something in the search or if insults anybody here for any reason.
I interviewed recently and, living in NY, want to fly out of LGA or JFK. For Shuttle, I can choose the 145 out of JFK or LGA, or 170 out of just LGA. Does anybody have any advice regarding upgrade time per base, or the worth of having two types upon the eventual switch to the 170, or any other relevant points to ponder? The signing bonus is a lot more for the 145, so there's that. |

Currently the 170 has a lot more productive schedules. That means better pay, more days off. The 170 also has a larger presence in NYC and it's the larger fleet type so you will probably have better relative seniority on that airframe and more bases to choose from.

Upgrade time is currently about 7 years.

Also, the culture of each training program is very different. The E145 training program is the traditional Chautauqua culture (read, we want you to be able to build the airplane when you're done with SIT) compared to the Shuttle/Republic's eJet KISS culture. |
No the super tough training is gone...
The 145 currently is growing in LGA and idle at JFK and the 175 growth will be in EWR and ORD maybe even DEN for United. The 175's for Delta will be focused in DTW and the company is even considering a base there as well. The 145 old days of you have to build the plane are gone. Delta extended the 145 for five more years with Republic so the plane will be around until at least 2021. Delta also agreed to raise the productivity from avg day credit of 4 hrs and 15 min to 5hrs and 20 min. I'll believe all this when I actually see it. Resulting in more efficient trips the second highest in the company. If you want to be LGA or JFK based I suggest the 145 since that's the plane no one wants to go to and no one wants to be based in NYC that flies the 145.

And you're wrong about the 145 training: as long as certain blue bloods remain in the program, the training will always have the "old-school" CHQ mentality, AQP makes little difference. |

Has there been a press release about this extended flying? If so, where? I haven't seen anything and until I do, it's a rumor.
