Advantage of Being a Pilot
 

Hey folks,

Some people on this forum may think that spending all your time/effort/money on learning to fly is a waste is you don't eventually get an professional aviation job.

Well, this coming thursday I'm interviewing for a meteorology internship at a weather forecasting firm. The fact that I was a pilot was a considerable resume enhancer, mainly because they do a good amount of aviation weather services.

In general being a pilot seems to suggest to employers that you are responsible and capable of handling challenging tasks, etc.

So I guess a pilot background has some good advantages even outside of aviation.

I agree. I feel that pilots get respect outside of the industry while not very much respect in the aviation industry.

I got a lot of respect for being a pilot when applying for some engineering internships during college. A few at Cessna (which I wound up turning down because it was in Kansas) said "Pilots License Preferred."

It certainly can't hurt!

We def get respect from society, just not each other hahah, nah when it comes down to it, we all share something special as cheesy as it sounds, anytime I meet up with another pilot we could shoot the Sh** for hours, thats why the airline thing is awesome, here at Express anyway every 4 day I have had the Captains have been awesome guys/gals, makes the job great. All those bitter guys that got their jobs 20-30 years ago with 250 hrs who look down at us will soon be gone. (kinda off topic but figures I throw it in there)

Being stupid enough to get an aviation degree, I feel that it hinders anything else that I would ever want to do in life. I interviewed(in the wake of 911) for a lifeguarding job and almost got turned down because the guy couldn't believe I wanted to sit next to a pool instead of fly an airplane. Actually, I just couldn't find a damn job at the time. In my opinion, you're probably better off just keeping your mouth shut about being a pilot and proving your credentials during another interview if you so choose that path.:confused:
