huh, was in denver today and saw the america west CRJ sitting north of the C concourse had mechanics walking on the fuselage and pylon for the # 1 engine. Didn't even notice it was mesa.

As far as this engine failure, it was an uncontained (obviously) failure of the fan section...the compressor section went ka-BLAM! |

As for the engine- I have no doubt that a weather balloon could do something like that... but I would surmise that the "fabric" we see drapped is either a protective covering that was hung on the engine, or more likely possibly the kevlar lining that is wrapped around the core to prevent shrapnel from penetrating the fuselage in the event of a failure? |
