Question to the group. Appreciate feedback. Been out of the cockpit for 7 years. Retired from the Navy out of a staff job preceded with a 1 year in Afghanistan no flying. Relatively low time as I started flying late in my career.
1900 TT. 1000 Multi Engine Jet (B707) only 150 ME Jet PIC - had surgery last year in squadron ate up all my AC time. 750 SE Turbine Instructor Time (T-6). Typed in BE400, B707. Am I wasting my time trying to get to the Majors? I think the Regionals will pick me up but I may be wrong. Thoughts?

The regionals will pick you up in a heartbeat. Start applying to the majors after 6 months or 500 hours of 121 time, whichever comes first.

Thanks for the reply. If anyone knows someone who was in a similar boat I would love to hear their story of going to the Regionals, then getting to the Majors. Thanks in advance.

I've seen it many times recently with folks in the reserves, helo guys and gapped FW aviators. Major should call within 12-18 months of regional flying. Take an early upgrade at the regional if you can, more TPIC might help since your mil time is presumably a bit low compared to the average tacamo guy.

Do your homework for interview prep for the majors, get some professional interview prep assistance.

If your most recent job that is non-flying covered the last five years like you say I believe that’s the only thing they would have to verify. My understanding is you have to give them 10 years of background but they’re only required to verify five. With how the regionals operate I doubt they would do extra work.
