Pilot jobs out of PIT

I'm currently working for a 121 carrier out of ORD and I'm dying to get back to PIT where my family is..I can't do the whole commuting thing anymore and I'm looking at another 3 years of reserve here at least with no holidays or weekends off.

Does anyone know of any airlines besides republic or allegiant that are based there, or know of a good 135 outfit you could steer my towards? I've just started to research but I'm not coming up with much.

Applied to republic yesterday so am hoping for a call soon. We will see..

Btw..Go steelers 🏈

Pittsburgh Jet Center is often looking for Citation pilots. There are a couple citation operators out of Washington County too. I am looking at Republic too just because I am from there too.

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!

If you live in PIT, Republic is a great deal. It is the most junior base in the system and you will get assigned there out of training. Because of that, your seniority in base will increase very quickly due to people who want to transfer out leaving, and new people coming in behind them. The variety of flying out of PIT is also interesting, lots of american flying through ORD AND MIA as well as united operations out of EWR. Only drawback is the early starts and late finishes, but if you live in base its not a big deal. Classes are filling up quickly, I think they are interviewing for late January right now. If anyone needs help with the process or has any questions, feel free to PM me.

Hahah you said classes are filling up quickly! How much did you cringe when typing that?

Hurry don't wait! This offer is to good to pass up!!!

Republic and Allegiant are the only ones I know of out of PIT. ExpressJet has a CLE base, easy two hour drive. Personally, I'd stay away from the smaller 135 operators in the area. Everything out of Washington County sucks, low pay and ZERO quality of life. LJ in Latrobe isn't that great. Voyager at Allegheny County is always looking for pilots, but you'll be attached to your phone all the time doing organ, CORE flights at 2AM.

It's like discounted recycled toilet paper: doesn't really feel good, but the extra money in your bank account is nice.

PDT has a Harrisburg base not too far down the road also. Very drivable.

I thought it was like a 4 hour drive? I could be mistaken though

Depends where in PIT you're at, 3:20-4 hours. Obviously, easier if you live right near an exit. I think my record was 3:25 nonstop. If I'm remembering this right, get off at Harrisburg East to go to MDT (first exit after you cross Susquehanna). Could get brutal during the winter when it was snowy near Somerset. Guy in my crashpad lived up by New Castle and did the trip via I-80/81 and it wasn't any longer than the turnpike.

Also depending on where you live, DTW employee lot is also just about a 4 hour drive. Did that drive many times, too. PA/OH turnpike tolls to DTW were actually cheaper than going to MDT.

The drive is a great option: Never gotten bumped due to weight or loads out of my own car.
