Do ost airlie pilots use Jepp charts. I was trained and only know how to use NOS charts. I would have thought professional pilts would use the government issued stuff.
I am just curious why are Jepp charts the prefered charts?

Well I'm glad for that cuz I find the NOS plates NOT user-friendly. (typical, they're issued by the gov't after all!)
N6724G, I think maybe another reason why airlines use Jepp plates is cuz Jepp can also make plates tailored for an airline's own standards.

the old format NOS charts are not good but the newest format aren't bad. My biggest complaint is that when changes are made, the plates aren't updated (which is stupid).

Correct. Jeppesen provides not only tailored charts, but custom coverages for each carrier's regular and alternate airports. That way we don't end up carrying charts for, say, Baldwin, Michigan.

Standard stuff, plus a contract, a "Captain's Atlas," a star chart, and "How to Identify the Night Sky" book for the weird stuff you might see at night.

enough to break about 10 pilots backs a month!!!! about 40lbs. doesnt sound like much till you are all hunched over, twisted around the armrest trying to pull it out of its slot!!

Fokker28 02-06-2007 02:02 PM

Company manuals, Jepps, 4 or 5 magazines, a book, a Palm (keep my log on APDL on that, plus it plays MP3s, holds pics of the kids), Surefire flashlight, extra pens, bankers clip, passport, extra TOLD cards, extra fuel slips, sunglass cleaner and cloth.

We are getting sweet EFBs soon, though, so after that...who knows what I'll fill the space with? Food?
