Okay, are you familiar with scope? And I'm not talking about the mouthwash. Nothing over 76 seats, 70-76 seat aircraft are all accounted for. There aren't any to add per mainline scope clause. And the 50 seat market has to shrink to meet that scope number. So what new aircraft are available? Also, not every regional is short staffed. Skywest, Republic, and Endeavor are doing just fine. It's mainly just the sketchy ones that are having a hard time filling classes. And why is it that GoJet needs direct entry captains?

We aren't short staffed though. Of course we could always use more FOs, but we aren't cancelling flights for lack of crew. Last seniority list has us at 585 pilots, compared to the 510 we had this time last year. Historically GoJet has been in the mid 500s on the roster.
We hire DEC for two reasons, it's a great recruitmet tool and our top guys are leaving as fast as we can upgrade. I've moved up 145 spots in 1 year being here. That's a lot of movement in an airline this small. In 1 year, I'm a line holding captain in DTW. I have a 81hr credit line with 14 days off and recurrent training next month. Guy below me has a 88hr 15 day off line...
Also, Delta offered us more 900 flying, but the top guys wanted to focus on our performance numbers, as we took a huge hit when we bought the last set of 900s. I'm not sure where those planes would have come from, just what we were told.

Recommend reading "Flying The Line, 1, 2 and 3" plus understanding what's happened the past 17 yrs in the regional industry. Knowing your history goes a long way towards not repeating it.

Gojet goes when the United 700 flying ends in a few months. I don't know why United wants to get rid of that 700 so badly. Gojet was given the opportunity to do the Aspen flying which requires a special training program and pilot certification. But then they decided that they didn't want to invest the money when they were considering closing or merging with Tran Slates. I have not looked in a few months, has that changed? Either way, things don't look good for Gojet.
Airlines often throw money at pilots to come to class right before they close. They don't want to have everyone suddenly stop buying tickets and have to close down earlier. I have known guys who were in class with Eastern, Braniff II, Aloha, and a couple of others when it all ended. I was interviewing at one airline being told how much they needed us and their great future and improved operations, new financing, but they ceased operations that afternoon.
If you only want a place for 3 to 9 months it is probably a good place to go but not if you want long term.

I just don't see any evidence of the company having any long term plans. The DO is a retired navy, non pilot, whose first pilot job was with Gojet. He just became the chief pilot in 2014 and when they fired the last DO a year later he took over. Normally someone in that position has been with several airlines in management and has made a lot of connections in the industry and manufactures, etc. He has no experience and no connections. That does not indicate a long term plan to me.
I don't believe what management is claiming about Delta wanting them to take more 900s but Gojet declining. Delta is not happy with them after the debacle with the scheduling program. Has there ever been such a debacle in the airline industry like that before?
They are trying to make people think they are getting 175s by offering bonuses to people with that type or the CRJ. But is there a training program that is approved? That takes several months to get approved so there is nothing in the near term.
When the contracts with United end the CRJs might go to Delta or American flying. American wants more flying out of NY so that is possible. Probably DTW for Delta or NY too. No more STL, DEN, or ORD I would think.
I think they want to shut it down or merge it with Trans States.
Of course the most accurate predictor is that I have a long record of going to airlines that shutdown! Stupidity doesn't lie!
