Handicap rooms
 
QX crews are consistently getting put into Handicap rooms in several of our hotels. Are any other crews getting same treatment or are we just "special?"

Hotels give crews rooms people don't want. They know we will be back the next day, and the day after, and the day after that. Half of these regional companies won't switch hotels over legitimate complaints like bed bugs, dirty rooms, rediculoulsy uncomfortable beds, no hot water, etc., so they certainly wont change over dumb things like handicap rooms. Whereas thier regular customers are going to be pi $$ ed if they have to deal with having one of those sinks with nowhere to even set their toothbrush, and will go and write a nasty review online and may not return.

Used to happen when I was at XJT. I wouldn't say it was common but it wasn't infrequent either. Heck, at Delta now and the captain got one the other night.

That is one good thing about our pilot group; many of us will call in fatigue or raise massive stink if the rooms are grossly inadequate.

I'm asking about the handicap rooms because it is a recent phenomenon with us. We went from getting these type of rooms occasionally to getting them every night. It's also against the law for the hotels to give out these rooms before all the other rooms are taken. There are disabled people who make a living out of finding ways to sue hotels for breaking the ADA law. I kind of wish one of those bottom feeders would hear about it. ;)

If it bothers you that much just go back to the desk and say you want a new room. Simple as that. I had one last week and the shower head didn't go higher than my stomach. Those rooms are a pain.

Do you have any sort of reference to back this up? In my experience accessible rooms go to air crews and Priceline customers.

Secondly, what is your objection to accessible rooms?

I kinda like the Handicapped rooms, sometimes request them. More roomy, usually on first floor, and I like the traction I get using the rails when I'm sitting on the can taking a growler.

The only thing I dislike about those rooms is the shower. It reminds me of a gym locker room and I skeve the little bench!:eek:

Most of them aren't that bad but a few places we stay have some really funky setups.

When I was working for Silver I had been offered it once at a holiday inn in Tampa. I guessed they thought that if I stayed in there I could say I was a real pilot because I stayed at a holiday inn that night!

Very infrequently do we get assigned handicapped rooms at XJT.

Certainly not at a frequency that would require me to ***** about it online.

Overall we have great hotel language and honestly if you're mature enough any issues can be handled directly with the hotel staff.

This may be difficult for some individuals who lack prior experience in minor-dynamic problem solving involving fellow human beings.

Your results WILL vary.

Unfortunately, this is an issue that needs to be addressed ASAP.

This particular hotel in LA, has crews from 4 other airlines overnighting there. AA, FedEx, SWA, Air NZ...and us...the only regional.

I know the author of this thread, and he's one of the more level headed pilot's we have in our group. When I heard about how the management at this hotel treated him/our crews, I wouldn't have been as tactful as he was.

Basically, manager said "Your airline isn't willing to give us enough money to keep you out of those room". The author was trying to get a feel for if other regional's have this issue, as well as any legal issues with ADA.

Doubtful.

At least not the "top tier" organizations that provide at least the illusion of "caring" for their flight crews.

The ADA violation is an interesting angle and will require whoever pursues it to know how many ADA qualified individuals are being disenfranchised by the management's decision.
