Average monthly pay?
Hello All,
If you are a first year or second year FO would please provide your average take home pay per month while flying a "normal" schedule. Please include your airline name! Exclude medical please! I am curious as to the actual amount so I can budget! Thank you in advance!!! :D |
Uh, that would largely depend on what Federal/State tax withholding you are claiming. It would be better for you if you did a little math based on your circumstances. Probably a more accurate expectation.
|
On second year pay I bring home on avg 2300 dollars. I pay about 250 per month for medical and another 400ish per month for dependent care (5k annually). Also I take out about 200 per month 401k. So 3150 second year pay on reserve at envoy.

Not enough

2nd year FO at SkyWest.
On my last my stub for the month of June: Year to date (Jan 1st to June 15th) totals: Total Gross: $28,911 Total Net (take home): $20,020 - after all deductions (medical, dental, 401K) This includes all per diem, quarterly bonuses and profit sharing. So.....take $20,020 (divide by) 5.5 months = $3,640 per month take home after all deductions and taxes. This also includes our 1 profit sharing check every 6 months, and performance bonus check every quarter. Also, I am single, no dependents, and have the low tier, high deductible health insurance plan. ($70 per month) |
Very insightful thank you so much for your replies. I hope others reply as well.

First year at Endeavor. The bonus checks come every 4 months so that throws it off. I also pick up a good amount of open time, but below is my pay:
As of the period ending 5/31 $39,031 total pay $28,335 after taxes/deductions $6,856.26 average per month with the bonus $4,939.59 average per month without the bonus This includes per diem and performance bonuses |

S5.
4th year FO. Average monthly net = $2500 Low? Yes. Why? Max state & fed taxes deducted. Max 401(k) deduction (15% of gross). Medical insurance premium of $430/month for low deductible/no deductible legacy medical insurance. NEVER pick up open time, average 16 days off/month. Average monthly credit = 88-94 hrs. |

How many referral bonuses is in that? Because I'm averaging about the same in terms of credit and I'm not near that net pay on 5/31.

Not sure what math you are using, but your numbers don't add up. $39031 / 5 = $7806.20. $28335 / 5 = $5667.00

We have been paid 2 out of 3 retention bonuses so far this year, so it would be unfair to just do a straight division. Instead: $39,031 - $14,333 (2 bonus payments) = $24,698 $24,698 / 5 = $4,939 $4,939 + (23,000/12) = $6,856 Does that make sense? |

Why are you maxing out your fed/state tax withholding? Are you getting a massive refund each year? If you are then every paycheck you are giving Uncle Sam an interest free loan. Reduce your withholding and give yourself that money each month.
Your advice is unwelcome, ignorant and didn't address the OP's question. Thank you. |

Son. You don't know me nor my situation. I didn't ask for tax advice. I can assure you that at 7 years prior to mandatory retirement that my tax situation is completely different from yours.

You would laugh if you knew what it was here. Second year pay is not much better, as my paycheck still seems to be negative....lol. With that being said, I like the people I work with, just the pay and hotels are pathetic.

2nd year FO at PSA...
I make about $4,000 /month pre-tax if I work my butt off and credit about 95-100 hours and 11-12 days off. After health insurance, union dues, and 401K I'm left with about $3,000 take home. That doesn't include our new FO retention bonus though either which works out to roughly another $800 /month before tax withholdings. I'm not going to be working as much through the rest of summer though so that will impact the pay a bit... |

Ok so back to the question; bicker through your PMs. Don't waste the internet space! ;)

Much more so, thanks for the clarification.

Well, I noticed it was your thread, so I removed my post. :)
Bear in mind, when you start, you'll only be getting min guarantee, no per diem for about 3 months. So that is fairly easy to compute for gross pay. Taxes, that will depend on your particular situation, as evidenced above. You'll have to figure that one out on your own. Your pay will go up after you hit the line and can credit more than min. Might even do that on RSV, depending on where you work. I have heard of a guy (XJet, I believe) who credits over 90 hours on RSV). If you're a DL mainline pilot, it's possible to credit enough with green slips to net over $48K a month, if you are willing to work the extra days.

1st Year FO at Trans States:
Average a take home of $3,200 a month. Filing single, and that number is after $173 for Medical+Dental, and 3% going into the 401k. |

It's sorta funny because your pay checks will actually go down once you finish training and hit the line for a more normal $200-400/month per diem on reserve depending on how much you fly. |

Take home around 3k/mo at AWAC. 2nd year FO, 10% to 401k. Live in base and pick up trips now and then and bid in top 25%. So usually get a 65-70 hour line with 15-16 days off.

And let me add, to be clear, I'm able to make more by bidding higher seniority, getting max days off, and picking up trips at premium pay. So I usually credit 100-110 hours some months, and some I just take it easy. Insurance is awesome, but of course the company is trying to gut it.

Well, I can see how somebody would max out their Tax Withholding. The best way to save money after you Max out your 401k is to obviously Save after tax monies, so with the bank paying ZIRP, it might make sense to for a Person to max out withholding through their paycheck, so that they don't even see the money till the end when the get their refund. Then, they could use the refund to fund an IRA further reducing their tax bill (you have until April 15th of the following year). What I do is to use a Cash Back CC to fund the IRA right before I file my Taxes and then pay the card in full when the Satement comes. Or, maybe he just wants to build an Emer Fund with his large refund. Point is, due to a lack of interest the "Loan" you are giving Uncle Sam isn't really harming you too much at this point and the easy convenience of the forced savings might well be worth it, especially if you will use the Money to fund your Traditional IRA, which for him is 6.5K. YMMV.:D
