XJT Hiring Questions
I put in an application on Express Jet's web site, as well as American Eagle and SkyWest, back around March 1. I am well above the published mins (2300TT/110ME), and heard back from Eagle and SkyWest shortly after. My resume still shows "screening" on Express Jet's site. Based on some of the posts here it seems like a decent place to work (if there is such a thing as a decent Regional) Does any one know how long it has been taking them to call people?
Also, is there any hope of a newbie being domicilled in the new LAX base? Thanks for any intel.....

PoBugSmasher,
It is not unusual for you app to fall between the cracks. It took me 5 months from initially submitting my app to being called and I exceeded their mins with multi-turbine alone. Anyhoo, best advice is for you to call their switchboard repeatedly and try to get noticed somehow. Some of us had to do it that way. I think your times exceed some of the people in my class.

Last August, I applied to both SkyWest and ExpressJet. SkyWest got back to me in 2 days, and I never heard from ExpressJet. My SkyWest interview lasted about 3 minutes. After much more instruction than I cared to endure, I applied to ExpressJet again in March thinking my original app had fallen between the cracks. That time I got an interview, but due to some personal stuff, I had to cancel it. So I had to reapply again, and now finally, some 9 months after getting 100 multi, I have an interview with Xjet next Wednesday.
I don't really have a point, though. I just wanted to rant.
I'll also add that ExpressJet seems to have recently updated their application system. My last application led me into some questionnaire about myself and my RECENT flight experience. It seemed more automated and I got a response much quicker this time, probably just a few days or so.

It only took them 2 days to get back to me, but it took them a couple weeks to get back to my buddy and we ended up being in the same hiring class. It seems like once they get X amount of applicants they send invitations.
I'm not sure recent flight experience is too big of a player. I only had like 45 in the last 6 months but explained that I was doing an internship with Alaska Airlines my last semester of college. Keep trying to get in touch with recruiting.

EaglCL65, and others....
Thanks for the info, and the kind words.
Honestly, I already had the Eagle interview. Things went great, right up until about 9pm on the second day, when I got in the full motion Level D ATR Sim. I'm not proud of it, but, I have to admit; that thing ate my lunch. This was my first ever airline interview, and as a mostly VFR, CFI in Arizona, I have very little simulator time, (none full-motion) zero experience with a crosshair flight director, instantaneus VSI, RMI, and fast airplane. My scan pretty muched sucked. I had a feeling I was in for trouble when I realized that I was the only one in my interview group, who did not already have some good Part 135, or turbine experience.
Honestly though, the people I met at Eagle were great. They indicated that they wuld wave the 6-month waiting period, and interview me again ASAP, if I got some high performance simulator time. They suggested taking the "Jet Transition Course" at ATP. A nice theory, but there's no way I'm going to borrow $7K for that course, to get a $19K per year job, and try to commute to LAX. It's the principal of the thing.
In the meantime, I took another CFI job, which is actually salaried at over $30K/year with great benefits. They have some pretty decent simulators, that I plan to use to sharpen myself up, while I put a few $ in the bank, and keep trying.

Po,
This advice falls squarely under the easier said than done banner, however:
Take this as a learning experience- nothing more, nothing less
I agree that you shouldn't pay for a jet transition course; none of my pilot friends did that. I cannot stress how much of a resourse Microsoft Flight Sim is. Get it and use it like you would your girl/guy if she/he were a supermodel. Fly something faster than what you are currently flying- I'd recommend the King Air and the 737. If you become proficient at hand flying both in maneuvers, approaches and holds in IMC, all future evals should go much better. Take it from me, I am speaking from 1st hand knowledge here and I have both turbo-prop and jet 121 experience. I have more time on Flight Sim than total time in my logbook. It will build your scan and make you flying that much better, trust me.
