Upgrade Time Question

If you were hired at Express Jet (600TT/100ME) but your actual times were 1000TT and 400ME, would that mean that you would be an upgrade candidate sooner? or is upgrade based on time with the company, or both?

Everything is based on senority. In other words, who was hired first. Besides, with the currentt upgrade time running about 2 years, the 600tt guy is going to have over 2000tt by the time he goes to class more than likely. Making him legal to hold and ATP. Assuming he was 23 of course.

Some airlines, like my former, have it their FOM that a CA candidate needs to have a specific amount of time, as well as Multi, or PIC, or turbine, before being eligible to bid for a CA seat. It's usually an insurance requirement. I believe Pinnacle has something similar.

Ummmmm. Duhhhhhh. (This is how I felt after I read this post)

hahaha Dont ever try and estimate upgrade, its pointless, and if you are concerned about not having enough time when its your turn to upgrade, you don't want to be at that airline anyway.....................think about it

Seniority is everything, and upgrade times are not always easy to predict. That said, go somewhere that will get you turbine PIC fast, then hopefully you can be senior to Saabaroowski at a real airline someday. Nobody wants to work for a regional forever, don't settle for a long career at one just for better QOL in the near term.

I heard mesa is a great place for that, upgrade is really quick... NOT

I'v been at mesa for 3.5 years I was hired with 300 TT, now I have 3500TT and 1200 turbine PIC. And every day has been h3ll. but when I get out and every one I was in flight school with is still at mesa, it will all be worth it.

hahahah I love it, what are you a Colgan guy, or MESA? which is it. 1,000PIC is not going to get most people anywhere, especially at an airline like MESA OR COLGAN, look at the statistics people

Finding a good regional is the best bet. The industry has changed and most people will not have the opportunity to fly at a major. I would not worry to much about anything other than the pay, work rules and QOL.

Upgrade time changes... When I was hired there were upgrades within a year. Then we retired 35 planes with no replacements. Suddenly it jumped to a 4-5yr upgrade.

So, it's just a matter of timing and luck. Your airline could go bankrupt before your upgrade or double in size.... You never know.
