Got Christmas off??

What percent of your company's pilot group (per domicile) has Christmas off?

aTomatoFlames 11-22-2016 07:59 AM

I'm not going to do the math but I did bid review for Dec. One of our bases apparently hates Christmas because anyone that wanted it off got it off. At least for line holders, the theory was that most people probably didn't think they could hold it so they didn't bid for it.

Edit: 66%

PSA -

CLT FO's. 248 total eligible FO's, the junior line holder is #193. Every line holder was eligible to drop Christmas with the SAP. So, simple math would indicate that the top 77.8% either have, or were eligible to have Christmas off.

The junior line holder in CLT actually has a pretty good schedule with 11 days off in a row over Christmas, and a total of 17 days off.

Without the SAP, it would not be nearly this good.

I was at AWAC for 3.5 years. I worked one Thanksgiving. I don't think many work holidays at AWAC, unless your very junior. That was pretty nice.

Aspen base? Tell me more! Is this Envoy?

higney85 11-22-2016 01:44 PM

33% can hold it off by seniority. 33% run into legality and work some or part, but end on Christmas or are required to be off. 33% work solid. 1% will have a random pairing ending super early and being off and home. For the last 10 years, the math has worked true, and in Pbs for Dec 2016 at my carrier, it still remains true overall.

On any given day, 60% of the workforce is working. Holidays get interesting, but overall, that's what it takes and it normally lines up with min days off for a ratio. Some are at min days, some pickup, then vacations, training, leaves, etc. 2/3 of the group will always need to work for things to work.

Yea. It's seasonal bidding for Aspen. 3 months at a time.

PosRateGearUp 11-22-2016 05:33 PM

Ho...holiday....hollindaise? Isn't that some sort of sauce?

Xelectro 11-23-2016 01:49 AM

EDV -200FO botttom 4 line holder (bidding only for credit, and no other preference) and have 24th and 25th of December off.

FlexNinja 11-23-2016 07:22 AM

Im not even off probation yet and im already a line holder with christmas, new years and my birthday off. Could have had thanksgiving, but I needed some other days off instead.

At SkyW we have no way to tell any of this.

We have a PBS that doesn't have to honor seniority in the name of efficiencies. (My opinion is they don't publish this information because people might actually get up set enough to do something about this if they could see it. Until then ig'nance is bliss.)

When you say "do something", you mean ***** on the sapa forums?

That's how I was last year and don't have it off this year. Don't get use to be spoiled around here :)

Haha, as a single guy with no family I was actually expecting to be working and didn't really need it off. But it's nice to see the priorities of PBS 😉

So you have zero idea what it's like to starve on a holiday.

Same here, 3 years in the industry and 2 airlines. I did spent however one new year's eve in training.

What's your point? I've never been homeless but I can appreciate having a roof over my head.

I think he was referring to the difficulty in finding any open restaurants during a Christmas layover. :(
