SkyWest in January if we get 25% of the pilot group to sign on.

I will be getting it.

I love how everyone is all I'm gonna sing up and they have no actual information on the plan. The expect people to sign up with no details on what they are even buying.

Also the insurance is not thru Skywest. They have nothing to do with it. Anyone can purchase the same insurance from HW.

Theres been quite a few emails with attachments and it's also on your EFB under sapa...just because you don't look doesn't mean it isn't there.

Doesn't that take 12 months after losing the medical to kick in? Unless they're assuming some sort of company short-term disability will provide filler coverage for that gap..? Also seems to offer pretty limited pay outs for lower-paid regional folks. Not saying it isn't helpful, but certainly seems to be of limited use-- if I still didn't have a medical back after a year, I'd have very likely moved on, at least temporarily. My biggest need would be right away, the weeks following an unexpected loss of medical while looking for a filler job. Maybe it'd help someone out who goes back to school or takes a lower-paying ramp job, etc. Or maybe I'm misreading the plan details...

Yup, skywest will be offering it in 2017 as long as 25% of pilots enroll so got to get about 1000-1100 of us to sign up. can't get 12 pilots to vote for something so could be close. I'm on the fence about doing getting it. 35k a year which pays out just about 23k is $50/month. not bad but not as cheap as I was expecting.

As always, read the fine print. Some of those plans will pay for a limited time until THEY decide you can find equivalent, gainful employment somewhere else (Home Depot).

It's a good offering at a better rate then most ALPA carriers because it kicks in fully after your longterm disability ends. Your Longterm (no cost) provided by the company pays out for two years.
My plan is to sign up and cancel my short term disability which is expensive, and just carry 80+ hours of user time (can't use it anyway) to bridge the 30 day gap until longterm starts up. This will offset a good portion of the plans cost.
Having an insurance plan that will pay until age 65 is a great peace-of-mind policy to carry.

I don't think you can get it as cheap though. And I wonder if you try to get it on your own you can be turned down.

The one at SkyWest will kick in at 6 months and pays tax free until age 65. I still looking for other info on it though, but plan on signing up myself.

Long term disability doesn't start until after 6 months. I presume you meant to say you'd cancel the 7 day STD plan but still stay on the 30 day. I know of several pilots that didn't buy into the STD and wound up losing their medicals for over 6 months.

Another consideration is that Cobra payments are easily over a $1000 a month and the company starts make you pay those not too long into a leave of absence.
