Well,,,, for the record... the aviationinterviews is 100% spot on.

Followed that and got hired, never read a Jepp chart once ever in my life before interviewing.

Don't know how you got bragging out of that statement but ok.

I literally said in my interview "I've never used Jepp before" and the interviewer said "No problem do your best".

I was able to answer all but two questions and neither of them had anything to do with it being a Jepp chart. They are not all that different than NACO. On the first one I simply said "I don't know" and the second one "I know the answer is ___ from aviation interviews but I forgot what the formula was".

Anyhow, sorry my testimony seemed to ding your ego. It was nice of you to post the charts.

This ^... Don't BS them, they will not be impressed. They asked me how to calc a DPD and I said I don't remember the formula off the interview website but I bet PSA could could teach me. The recruiters smiled at that!

When you learn how to calculate the "DPD" would you mind sharing with us all?

Simple...PDP is more conservative than VDP. Take HAT the number in parentheses next to your MDA for Approach and divide by 300. This will give you distance from runway to begin stabilized approach down from mins. For time based, you take HAT and multiply by 10%. Subtract this value from charted missed approach time This value is the time from FAF to begin down to runway. Keep in mind PSA rounds non prec approaches up to nearest 100. The value added must be added to HAT before dividing by 300 or multiplying 10% For instance reference Localizer approach above. Mda is 1120. We must add 80 to round to 1200. This 80 ft is now added to HAT of 393 giving us 473. Now divide by 300. I get 1.57 call it 1.5. Since this loc is based off dme you can add 1.5 to dme at runway which is 1.5. So 3 DME on localizer start down. You could also use time method for this. Hope it helps.

From the approach charts that are used for the interviews, it looks like they are not using a GPS approach. Therefor, the DME/distance based VDP is not what is being asked.

For a localizer only approach (without DME), everything is based off of time. http://captainslog.aero/wp-content/u...tudy-guide.pdf

I may be wrong, but from the approaches that are used for the interview, they are obviously asking about the Localizer Only for CLT (or ILS for CLT). The Loc only without DME is time based.

Also, I don't think that people should round for the interview. That is a PSA only technique, and it would be pretty unfair if we quizzed people on our techniques. Just stick with what is on the chart.

HAT * 10% = a time in seconds. Subtract that from the time between the FAF and MAP. Keep it simple. You can probably say something like "I understand that PSA rounds this up, and I look forward to learning that method when I am in class at PSA".

If the HAT is 400, and the time from the FAF to MAP is 1:45, then 400*.10=40 seconds. 1:45 -0:40 = 1:05. The VDP is 1:05. Simple.

The reason they are rounding up to the nearest 100ft is so that they can select that adjusted MDA in the altitude selector. This is a common practice with many different airlines.
