The flow is nice because it guarantees movement each month. Every single month, "X" number of pilots leave for a legacy.

At PSA, we have been sending more pilots to other legacies every month than we are to AA. Despite the flow, we also have pilots that are getting selected to interview at AA outside of the flow.

We have sent more to Delta in the last 3 months than we have AA through the flow. We have also sent pilots to United, JetBlue, FedEx, UPS, and Spirit. That is in addition to the flow.

Flow in addition to regular attrition is a great combination.

Met a civilian SKYW (under 16months on property) pilot today that just got on with DL. He informed me there were about 250-300 that got on from them.
Last month, I had met a SkyWest pilot who just got hired at AA with 4 years. I am sure there are lots that went to UA.
How are they bypassing all flows?
They're already at mainline why would they make a lateral move!?

Isn't AA the only one with a flow agreement anyway? DL and UA you have to interview like everyone else. I think everyone that had flow through with Compass and Mesaba has already taken their flow. I don't see the point of this thread.

They are frustrated because the flow really is a recruitment tactic and boy do the recruiters and pilots of the AA WOs sell it hard. It is working at PDT, but ENY is a very different story.

What exactly are the negatives of the flow right now for AA WO pilots?

A guaranteed number of pilots every month are flowing to AA, creating continual movement from the top of the list.

The flow does not prohibit anyone from getting hired outside of it. So, there are Envoy and PSA pilots going to AA outside of the flow. (I do not know of any PDT pilots that are doing this, so I don't want to give inaccurate info. PDT pilots may be going outside the flow as well).

So, every month, the AA WO are losing pilots to United, Delta, AA, JetBlue, etc... OUTSIDE of the flow, and still flowing pilots.

What is the negative for the pilot group?

For Envoy, it is likely that they will flow over 300 this year, and I would not be surprised if another 300 leave to outside attrition. That means that new hires may move up 600 seniority spots this year. That is great for Envoy's pilot group and their new hires. I would say that it IS working for Envoy.

People from CPZ, SKYWEST, TSA, and even airlines like Envoy can get hired at UAL.
And I know plenty of people at major airlines who worked at union/non-flow carriers. Popcorn is full of it.

I agree. Just get tired of people thinking their entitled to a job like the OP. Guess the OP thinks those coming out of the military and getting a job at AA constitutes him being bypassed as well.

That is good for ENY then. I didn't mean to come off that the flows aren't good for the current pilots, it is. I was more so saying that the people on these forums and recruiters sell the point that you don't interview again and don't need a college degree. There are cases of flows where the person can't pass AA groundschool. Having a guaranteed job with mainline is never a bad thing. Just have to wait your turn in line which you could wait less if you apply and interview.

Anyone at PDT, Envoy, or PSA can apply and get hired outside of the flow at AA. Just like everyone else. There are no restrictions on this.

The flow helps every single person on the seniority list. As more people leave the list from the top each month, the more advancement there is for people further down. Junior pilots move up and take the LCA roles, or instructor roles. That helps them build a resume and get hired outside of the flow.

The death of a regional are lifers that clog up the list and fill all of the senior roles.

Right now the flow is a good thing, and probably will be for the foreseeable future. But flowups also mean flow backs when times are tough. Just ask those original Eagle guys from the late 90's/2000 how it worked. Similar happened to Mesaba guys?
