I'll tell you this much, projecting base drops is absolutely unpredictable at this company. Last class got mostly IND and PIT which are usually senior becauses the upgrade class that started at the same time were mostly PIT and IND FOs, so they needed to back-fill. Somebody who wanted Lugordia which is usually always available couldn't get it.

The good news is that you can usually get to the base you want pretty quick, but for a month or two it is going to suck sitting reserve while commuting. That means you will have to get a crash pad.

Be very careful to chose an airline based on bases. Bases come and go very quickly. Miami can stay but can also close depending on where AA needs our planes and pilots.
The Miami flying itself is safe for at least the next two years. A bunch of Caribbean destinations were extended till end of 2019, late in the summer and there is no evidence of Envoy working towards EOW capabilities. However, like you said anything is possible and the base itself could close.

However, this thread is starting to stray off topic.

It's not 3-9 months to hold MIA. That was true this past summer when MIA was expanding and there were vacancies every month. MIA has become senior quickly on the FO side.

For potential new hires looking to come here for the MIA base you need to understand how "holding" a base works here.
"Holding" a base is not just seniority based on DOH. First there has to be a vacancy. So for example, right now the junior FO in base at MIA is March 2017. That FO got lucky and got in this summer when MIA was expanding. MIA is now fully staffed and it very senior now to get an award.

Here are the past three months of awards to MIA for FO's:
Jan 18- MIA none
Feb 18- MIA none
March 18- MIA 2- DOH 9/15 (2 years and 2 months of seniority at time of award for March 2018, will actually be in base at 2 years and 6months from DOH)

So for all you potential new hires out there, I want you to understand the truth about MIA. Even though our current seniority list shows a DOH of March 2017 as the junior FO in base. The past three months of base awards only two FO's got into MIA with a DOH of 9/15. Right now on the denied award report for the last award for MIA there were 43 FO's denied MIA. So for a new hire starting today, you already have 43 FO's senior to you trying to get into MIA. In the past three months we've only seen two FO's get into MIA. I understand things change, people upgrade and leave the company. Summer brings more flying etc. However, as of now flying is not increasing in MIA and I don't see a huge wave of Captain upgrades happening. MIA had a wave of vacancy awards last spring and summer, and that wave has passed. MIA is fully staffed and senior to get now.

Bottom line:
By my math it would take a new hire over 2 years to be awarded MIA as an FO.

The majority of that is correct, Miami is very senior for FOs but the junior FO in Miami is not a 2015 hire. More like end of 2016.

If you read my post fully, I mention the current Junior FO in base is March 2017, but you can't base your time to award on that. The last award for March 2018 went to a 9/15 hire. So with a list of 43 FO's trying to bid MIA a new hire today has a long wait over 2 years, unless some crazy movement happens.

does anyone know the current status of PIT or CMH, what would be the odds of dropping one of the other initially. And how long would it take to get one of those two if not initially awarded. Thanks!

Both are possible, I would say CMH is more likely, more vacancies are showing for CMH. PIT is definitely possible to get prior to leaving training if not awarded initially. The nice thing is EWR and LGA are easy to get to from CMH or PIT depending on where you live. At worst you'd commute for a month or two to EWR, LGA or DCA then get awarded CMH or PIT.

I think you could get CMH as a new hire award though.

Disclaimer: These things could always change without a moments notice, just the trend as of this posting today.... this is the airline industry.

Read my post above. Both Pit and Cmh were awarded in a recent class but special circumstances caused pit to open up. You just don’t know, it is a crap shoot what you are awarded initially. If you don’t get either in training you’ll get itwith your initial base swap bids or 2

Are new hires being awarded DCA out of training?

I live in PIT and would love to have it as a base, however I've been told that you could be on reserve for over a year at PIT? Is that really the case, cause if it is it sounds like it would be better to just commute to EWR or something from PIT
