Default Republic Trip Rig and Duty Rig

Can anyone who currently works at Republic explain how trip and duty rigs work there? Do you have to be a line holder to get these or is it paid to reserves too?

Duty rig is 2:1 so if you’re on duty for 12 hours you’re guaranteed to make at least 6 hours credit. Hopefully you’re scheduled to block more.
Trip rig is 4:1 so if you’re away from base for 100 hours on a trip, you’re guaranteed to credit at least 25 hours. Hopefully you’re scheduled to block more (I’ve never had a trip with such low credit that the trip rig kicks in but it’s nice to have). It kind of protects you from the company building very inefficient pairings.

Yes you get these protections if you’re awarded a trip while on reserve.

That makes sense, thank you! The way it was explained to me was that you get both. That didn't sound right. Looking at your example, you get whichever is the higher of the two amounts. Do any other regionals do trip/duty rigs?

I believe they also have a minimum day credit as well.

Yes min day credit is 4 hrs 12 mins (4:12). If you're on reserve and you get assigned DCA-LGA-DCA you'll only block a little under 2 hours but earn 4:12 of credit.

You always get the highest of the four options possible.

Min credit 4:12 per day
Duty Rig
Trip Rig
Or Blocked flight time + DH pay (75% of that blocked time)

Min Credit, Duty Rig and Block/DH are calculated on a daily basis while Trip Rig is only calculated for the total time away from base and does not affect daily credit.

So for example, say you are on a three day trip and you will be gone for exactly 72 hours. Trip Rig would give you 18hrs of credit or an average of 6hrs per day over those three days. Now say over those three days you flew 8hrs, 5hrs and 5hrs. You would still only be paid 18hrs, you WOULD NOT get 8hrs for day one and then the 6hr average for days 2/3.

The reason why I bring this up is because we have out of base reserves that get reassigned or volunteer to sit in a different base for their reserve period. They only get min day for this duty unless they are used. Trip Rig no longer covers this.

Keep in mind that while on Reserves you are rarely going to book above your min month guarantee of 75hrs. So while Republic has some of the best Rigs in the Regional business, it doesn't mean much while on Reserve. You can pretty much just count on getting paid 75hrs if you don't pick up any open time. If you are close to 75 hours, they will skip over you if there is somebody else on Reserve that is under it and give them that trip.

It might depend on your base, but I’ve been crediting 85-95 hours on CA reserve in LGA all winter.

TheWeatherman is correct. I broke 75 hours as a CMH FO on reserve once in over a year. The only way you make above 75 is to pick up an opentime trip on your days off. That's often frowned upon because it reduces our negotiating leverage with the company, but people still do it.

Default Trip rig show times and hotels

I understand that republic does not offer front or back side hotels. Is it common to get an early AM show time that would cause you to come out of pocket on a hotel room if you are a commuter?

Not that this would drive me away from republic. I'm just curious.
