Where is everyone going?
How’s the attrition at RAH? I was recently in Indy for an interview and they said most guys are sticking around 3.5 years and then moving on, is this accurate? Also how does the whole being owned by three majors thing work? Any kind of advantage?

3.5 years about actually sounds about right, buuuuuuuut that’s an average. The real story is we lose a ton of 1 to 2 year FOs to LCCs and a handful of 10+ yr captains to Southwest. with the handful that get hired elsewhere it probably brings the average to 3.5 years. As for your other questions, being owned by all three doesn’t impact you at all flying and there’s no benefit to it aside from getting to learn which mainline operation you dislike the most.

Thought you’d already chosen Skywest? Not trying to flame, serious inquiry.

I had a CJO from them, the plan was to move to SoCal eventually but my wife was offered a new position in her office so moving is probably not feasible anymore. I’ll be commuting throughout my regional career, OO was the obvious choice when I thought I was moving but republic has better QOL and the pay is considerably higher. So go ahead troll-on I deserve it lol.

To your original question, the previous answer is spot on. We lose a ton of very new FOs to the LCCs, and senior captains to Southwest et al. In the junior to slightly senior Captain ranks we've been sending a few to the big three, mostly Delta. By far the greatest attrition is to LCCs and Kalitta/Atlas type cargo operators.

Will you do an I un choose Skywest and choose Republic thread haha! Just kidding. What base are you thinking with Republic? Skywest is gonna have to figure out how to match the pay and work rules of the top union carriers. Having west coast bases isn’t gonna staff them forever.

It's astonishing how fast Skywest has fallen. When I was interviewing in late summer 2015, Skywest was my first choice. I only came to Republic because I could drive to work. Nowadays people are avoiding it (and rightly) for a lot of other options. The Skywest crews I commute on are always amazed that I get 17 days off. Even senior FOs don't get that kind of schedule there.

I know right lol, I’m thinking DCA. I still believe they’re a great company and I wish the circumstances were different and I could have chosen them like I intended to. I’m sure they will come out with something good for you guys, they have to or else a lot of people like me who wanted to fly there will pass them up for better opportunities.
