Hey all,

I am starting training next week and I am starting to pack. Coming as a college CFI, this is totally new to me. What should I bring/not bring to training? As for dressing up, what would you recommend packing and wearing?

Any inputs would be greatly appreciated.

Business casual is what’s advertised for the training dress code. Most people in class will be in Polos/Button Up shirts, slacks/khakis, dress shoes/dress boots.

That’s all you’ll need to worry about for in class ATP-CTP/Indoc/Systems/Sit/EFPTs

Khakis, dress blue jeans, polos, button ups, nice pair of shoes, etc. Then whatever you want to wear on your free time. I ended up buying a Bluetooth speaker while in training, but if you have one, think about taking it or something similar for entertainment. Not sure I would take a game consol as it will distract you.

I'm not sure how they exactly have it itineraried now with the home self study, but pack for your entire training footprint unless you know for sure that the company will be sending you home. I would not plan on trying to jump seat home at all.

You can check baggage on your flights to/from training for free, Two I believe.

Indoc is two weeks, then its home for two weeks minimum to complete ethos. There are machines for washing clothes at both the Super 8 and the Wingate, i do not know about the Indianapolis Suites.

I brought way more than I actually needed initially, so if you can condense a week's clothes into a carry on, I would do that. Good training for your line flying career anyway. Long pants like slacks (even jeans) okay. Shirt wise, collared shirts. Short sleeve polos, dry fit's, all the way to long sleeve button downs if you're really a glutton for being hot. Just bring what you're going to be comfortable in to watch powerpoints for 8 hours a day. Honestly, you could wear Hawaiian shirts everyday and I doubt anyone would care (although I really don't recommend that!) It's a very relaxed training environment. No wardrobe police. You'll get your ID photo taken on day 1, so wear clothes and clean up the way you'll want to look in that photo, but the rest of the days, comfort should be the goal.

Just finished indoc, 9 days plus travel days.

I brought one pair of dress shoes, 3 pairs of slacks and 6 button down shirts/socks/uw plus one pair of jeans and a bunch of t-shirts for casual evenings, clothes to sleep in, plus the clothes I had on during travel day.

I stuffed all of this in my Briggs domestic carry on spinner (which has a bit less interior space than the 2 wheel unit), but I needed to expand it fully. Compressed it is a legal carry on but won't fit in the bins of the 145s and other 50 seaters. Our 175's can hold a legal carry on in the bins but my bag was expanded beyond the legal domestic carry on size so I had to gate check it but it's actually more convenient to gate check than it is to sluff on down to baggage claim.

On Friday evening (after four days of training) I took my pants and shirts to a local dry cleaner (Sunshine). That was ready on Monday by 4PM.

On Saturday I took all the remainder of my clothes / socks / uw / jeans to a laundromat called Pepper's Express. It's about 10 minutes south of the hotels. Owner is a former XJT FA and really nice, and place is only about 5 months old so it's brand new. Bathrooms are clean, so while you do a few loads you can leave one or two yourself.

Moral of the story: pack for about 5 or maybe 6 days and refresh with a trip to dry cleaning and a laundromat.
