So the contract is prorated and your buddy spent a little time there. What's going to be cheaper? Buying out the contract or hiring a lawyer familiar with aviation contracts?
I'm interviewing with some places that do contracts as well. I've also not been flying for the last few months. It's part of life. Knowing they have contracts I am only interviewing with places that I can afford to write a check if a much better offer comes along.

The guy had a medical problem, for that side of it I am sure he can get out of it.
I hate to say this. I actually agree with HOTMOMAPILOT when you break the contract you have to pay(accept for medical conditions of course).
By the way mind reader which party do I vote for?

Contracts are a part of life... car loans , mortgages and a whole host of big life choices.
What gets me is when you sign these contracts you were probably very excited at getting on with XYZ airlines . Now buyers remorse . Sorry folks I cannot sympathize with your plight . I signed amortgage contract and make payments though I am out of work .Its called responsibility.Keep in mind more employers are now doing credit histories on newhires (in all types of businesses).
