Considering they also announced the wind down of the Q400 flying, it appears to be replacement flying. I doubt the regional industry is going to see overall growth in the immediate future. It seems the legacies are concentrating on re-fleeting the regionals with fewer, larger aircraft.

The public announcement states 50 E175s will replace 28 Q400s currently flying for United resulting in a net gain of 22 planes. The remaining 41 E145s only fly for Delta.

Does anyone know if the Q400 counted against the scope for 70+ seat aircraft at United?

Default Keeping whipsaw alive.

Now they can recruit...the majors need a certain number of regionals kept alive for the whipsaw to stay alive.

I guess voting NO hasn't hurt them too badly. Refleeting happening anyway.

So United is done with the Q400's? Or is some other regional going to bring it on board and fly it under the United Express brand?

It's a two year time frame for delivery and replacement according to BB's letter. The Q's will be wound down at a slower rate to maintain service to Aspen and a few other cities.
