unfortunately, you are expected to travel home anytime during training. With that said, some people in my class had more than 4 days off between the oral and the start of Simulator, and they were sent home. Other than that, no one was sent home during any of the training we have had so far.

Going home on the weekends is not recommended by the company or Probably any pilot you ask. Get study groups together and get in the books. Then go out and do stuff together as a class or study group.

You are only provided travel if it's 4 days or more of idle time between training events and yes it will be space positive.

I have a 2 leg commute so I will definitely not be going home...and yes, I have a family. I tried that once before and almost got burned by cancellations and overbooking.
So I would say it depends on where you have to get to, how many flights are available and what the loads are.
For me, it's not stress I need while in training.
