Republic after the contract
Hi, my background is 11 years corporate and hoping to get on with a major airline. Current job is 135 on call with a very varied and unknown schedule. I live in Pittsburgh and now, with a new contract, and with increased pay among other things, taking a second look at republic. No calls from the majors so my thinking is that getting some 121 time could help my resume.
I have read the republic threads and how management has some real problems. I have more than 2000 hours turbine PIC time so the upgrade is not my first goal. Looking for better quality of life with some type of schedule and getting some 121 experience on my resume.
So what are your thoughts especially from current republic pilots. Is pit junior? Is the 170/175 possible for new hires? What is realistic take home pay for the first year? Days off? Health insurance for my wife, son and I? Probably is a step back for me. 5100 tt but trying to get a call from a major and better quality of life. I should also state that republic wouldn't be my first choice because I hear commuting is terrible. This is why i am giving them a second look. Thoughts?

Well I would say that you're in a good place to have a good experience with republic. Pit is the most junior base, you will be on reserve for less than a month. All new hires are going to the 175. You will make around 40 grand on first year pay. The new pay protections, full cancelation pay and no junior manning are all major pluses.
However. If you already think you are above working here, take a pass and go somewhere else. There are plenty of people here and at other regionals with much more total time and PIC then you who don't think this place or there's is beneath them. Good luck getting past any interview with that attitude.

PIT is very junior on the FO side, very senior on the captain side. You'll have no problem getting it right out of training. Living in base makes a HUGE difference in QOL so PIT is a good option. The whole interview process is extremely straight forward HR type questions and some technical questions. I've heard we've done away with the table top pc sim ride.
Days off average about 14-15 per month for most line holders, though the company has made some changes to FLICA that have led to screwy results for December. Health insurance is a bit pricey, but available for yourself and family.

Rjet decreases flying
Republic Airways has reached a tentative agreement with its mainline partners to cancel commitments for 24 Embraer 175 aircraft, says chief executive Bryan Bedford.
The move is the result of protracted labour negotiations with the Indianapolis-based regional carrier’s pilots, which came to a head in July when the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) filed suit against the carrier. Since then, it has faced a net deficit of about 40 pilots per month as far more cockpit crewmembers left the airline than could be recruited.
“We’re in a position where our franchise has been badly damaged and, despite all of our best efforts, it won’t be fully healed quickly,” says Bedford during an earnings call today. “ expect the future size of our operation will be smaller than where we are today.”
Pilots at Republic ratified a new three-year contract in October, however, staffing levels are not expected to return to normal for some months.
Republic had outstanding orders for 55 E175s at the end of September, including six for American Airlines with deliveries through the first quarter of 2016 and 49 for United Airlines with deliveries through the third quarter of 2017.
Bedford and other executives say the most acute impact from the pilot deficit will be felt in the fourth quarter and first quarter of 2016 but decline to provide further details on the commitments.
Five of the E175s are likely the aircraft that United said in October that it would shift to Mesa Airlines from an unnamed partner.
American and United should find it easy to place the remaining 19 E175s with other regional operators, including E-Jet operators Compass Airlines, Mesa and SkyWest Airlines.
In addition to the E175 cancellations, Republic is also speeding up the removal of its Bombardier Q400 fleet by about six months and will make temporary E-Jet flying reductions with two of its partner carriers through first quarter

Apparently Rjet closes bases a lot. Does PIT look like a stable base for this guy? That should be the main factor in choosing to go there. Apparently their new contract is horrible for QOL if you commute there. Outstation basing and base closures can make life hell there.

Chill out sensitive Sally. You work for a **** hole company, why are you so defensive? Get your time and try to GTFO ASAP. I have flown with prior Rjet pilots at my current airline and I'm shocked by how horrible their regional experience was compared to mine at XJT. I'm not saying XJT is amazing, and I wouldn't recommend anyone going there right now because it doesn't look like they will survive, but compared to Rjet it was night and day.

One of my best friend is a 7 years FO at XJT and I haven't heard one positive thing about XJ coming out of his mouth for the past 6 years, apart from the satisfaction of flying an airliner. And for the past 3 years, he keeps telling me that XJT will close down, alike all regionals. Must be fun working with this kind of company mentality.
Oh yes, you'll also tell us that the new TA is bad because RAH will go BR, of course, LOL.
The funny thing for this forum is that what seems to be an educated, balanced, demographic, keep using words like "apparently", "in my opinion", "I think", "I was told", "someone told me", "it looks like".... when it comes to giving information, what's the challenge with sticking to facts. "apparently rjet is closing a lot of bases"? over what period? which ones? when did it happen?
Fact, the airline had a horrible TA, with horrible work conditions, pilots attrition was terrible (approx. 140 pilots left in 2015), bases were closing, company couldn't handle all the flights it was contracted by the majors to operate and had to cut some. Alright.
Now, let's get to post-new TA facts and let's see where things go.
It's a fun forum and luckily there's the pm function to exchange real info, because rumors and gossips seem to be more present in threads than actual info.

Thanks for your replies. I am not trying to be above anybody or anything. I was just stating where I am now to receive the best advice for my situation. It would be a significant step back in pay as I support my wife and infant son. Of course there are pilots with more time than me, but thanks for the reminder Hopefully more people can chime in with the situation at republic now with the new ta.

Why haters like you keep loving to have to bash on rjet, and need, somehow, to keep wanting to convince people that it's horrible at RAH. It seems from guys flying there, newbies and seniors, that things are really changing since the new TA. Despite threats from mgt, they didn't gave up and surrendered to the BR threats like the E9 guys did back then; they got a game changing new contract with better work conditions than most other regionals at the moment, and, looking at the new CommutAir TA, surely having an influence on new TAs (Let's see what happens at XJT but things can only get better with the new TA).
