IAH will be 12-18 months reserve for at least the next few months, and I don't see that changing any time soon.

Agreed, but IAH and MCI are, comparatively-speaking, niche bases. Lots of commuters from places farther west. I'm most familiar with IAH because I'm based there, but there are more than a handful of FOs who won't upgrade until they can hold IAH, and a handful more who seem content to ride their seniority and not upgrade period. And with no vacancies on the CA side posted for the last 4 months, it's stagnant on the FO side, too.

It's pointless (at least on the FO side) because it is always changing.

For every FO that forgoes upgrade for QOL (although I have to question that decision with the big pay jump) there are at least two that takes first avaliable. Point is the prospective hire that you give misinformation to by saying there is a 18 month reserve time at MCI may only see 2 or 3 when they get there.

Yes, but my issue is with your statement that more people are taking first available upgrade there than not. That's not even close to true in IAH. The FOs above 25 (out of ~45 bidders) are all upgrade-eligible. Meaning 55% of the list has decided to pass up on an upgrade. A few here and there take it, but it's by no means anything other than a small minority, and Crew Planning is just maintaining the status quo with backfills. Which means reserve times will be long well into the future barring some major change (and with OO taking EV's flying in both IAH and ORD, I don't expect us to see much growth there). Don't get me wrong, I certainly hope I am! But the last 4 months have seen zero vacancies in either seat. During a time when we're losing 50 pilots each month.
You're absolutely spot on that you can't really gauge what the situation will be for someone hired now (see Miami as a great example of how quickly things can change). But you'd have to be a veritable fool to expect anything other than a long wait to hold IAH, and an even longer wait to sniff a hard line.
Come to Republic for the great work rules, good pay, and good company culture. Don't come for an IAH base.
Now watch us announce a s#itload of additional flying in IAH tomorrow.

Yeah, it's not a pretty picture. Part of the reason I'm moving bases, even though I live in Texas. Hopefully it's just a cyclical thing and it will come back. But IAH has lost about 25% of its pairings over the last few months, with declines even in months where it should be increasing.
