Bedford's last update

Any idea what the "projects" are they've been working on? My guess is new safety vests for all

FlyingKat 05-11-2018 06:37 AM

Can 9ne of you fine Republic folks repost it here for inquiring minds :D

JAHawk 05-11-2018 06:53 AM

Rumors I've heard with location and source of hearing them:

Training Center:
1. Potential Flow announcement with United - Company is in talks but it is a very difficult situation since they are 22% owned equally by each of the Big 3 and 44% privately held. Source: A Chief Pilot

2. Buying a Flight Training School - This would help with recruitment and give people a path from PPL to flying the ERJ-170/175 at Republic.
Source: ERJ-175 Instructor Pilot

Flight Deck:
3. Buying another regional (Trans States seems most likely). Source: 18 Year Captain

In general multiple people have said Bedford is very good at this type of thing - getting people excited and talking about announcements/projects vaugley, letting people's imagination run and then sometimes nothing comes of it, or if something "Big" does happen it may not be that big of a deal to you personally or to the pilot group but is big for the company.

Hope that helps. Best Regional in the Industry IMO.

It's going to end up like Spirits huge announcement yesterday... adding Wifi, but we already have that...

Your "Chief Pilot" isn't very good at math!:rolleyes::eek:

JAHawk 05-20-2018 06:44 AM

Yea 34%. Math in public...always a bad idea.

I'd be shocked to see a flow agreement with United. Especially since American owns the majority of us. But yes I agree, best regional in the industry. No more industry leading pay but easily the best contract of the regionals.

-Flow
A fleet manager mentioned that Bedford was talking to DAL AND UAL and is aiming for a release of what every they come up with in Q3. best case scenario flow, worst case a guaranteed interview.

-Flight School
Already has happened actually, will be in Indy from what I'm hearing. I work on PTAT and have been told the angle we are selling it is we aim for people graduating from high school to the folks who want to do the job, but cant afford it. Not sure what the work commitment will be on the back end of those agreements, but they really are trying their best to pull in as many people as they possibly can currently.

-Flight Deck
Fleet manager is working on getting iPads data on the deck, right now the hold back is one of the majors.

Outsider here. What exactly do you mean by data? I thought Republic had already transitioned to ipads with full charts and (presumably) any aircraft data, company procedures, etc.

I think he means 3G data. Late last year or maybe it was early this year, can't remember, the company replaced every pilot's iPad with a 3G capable iPad. Currently, we only use the GPS ownership with the new iPads, but from the get go it was rumored of possibly getting cell service on them so we can get our releases on them electronically. We recently were approved to use e-releases, but currently have to have wifi or hotspot off of our phones to get them.

Ah, okay. I have my own LTE/GPS ipad with foreflight for private flying and it's awesome. No searching for free wifi at every airport. Glad to hear someone is at least thinking about this. Can't wait until the FAA allows GA to get PDC through an app, because then it will be a hop, skip and a jump to connect the ipad to the panel mount equipment to upload the clearance. If I never have to enter a FRC into a GPS / FMS again it will be too soon.

..... because Republic is dying to get back into the E-145 flying that they got rid of by filing a sham bankruptcy.

KCaviator 05-21-2018 06:04 AM

Those who think we’ll get a true flow are completely delirious. A preferential interview or CPP, maybe, but a true flow will definitely not happen. And even a preferential interview or CPP seem unlikely to me.

Been hearing the typical Compass/west coast rumors, but that’s nothing new. Bedford hinted at wanting to get additional Delta flying, but he also mentioned 12 additional aircraft for a codeshare back in February and that never happened. So with that being said, I doubt we hear any significant announcement any time soon.

I'd rather see true expansion west, not just a few western routes out of IAH. Flow/CPP is a useless carrot, just like most of BB's updates.

If we can keep some pilots and grow the staff, the airplanes will come. I wouldn't completely discard 12 airplanes because it hasn't happened in THREE MONTHS. Airplanes don't just appear overnight.

ORD170 05-23-2018 03:56 AM

You will not see a true flow to a legacy at Republic. Best case maybe something to F9 or maybe NK. I would expect some type of guaranteed interview. Probably nothing with AA, because they have their WOs. Republic leadership (including the union) sucks at expectation management. Southwest has no desire to have a flow, but they sure love us here. Maybe he is just having another kid :)
