Default What to expect for ATP CTP?

I think Republic uses a few different locations, but details about this whole process is scant. How did it go for you guys? What exactly was it?

Was it easy? Hard?

The course itself is easy. You’ll go to L3 in Dallas, Vegas, or Orlando. 4 days of classroom taught by an instructor who has 121 experience. It covers airline topics and some stuff you may have seen, other stuff you haven’t. The greatest learning experience you’ll get from it is the stories from the Instructor. Then you’ll have 3 days with a sim once on each of those days. 8th day is test day. You do no written prep in class. You’ll have to study SA outside of class at the hotel. You’ll have plenty of time but boy is it better to be prepared before hand.

So basically I just have to prepare for the ATP written, which we take on the 8th day? By SA do you mean sheppard air?

You need to pay attention in class even though it’s easy, but yes do Sheppard air on your own outside of class.

There is a written exam on the 4th day over class covered topics. Without studying too much most people easily get the required score and you can take it up to 3 times same day. Pay attention when they go over the study questions at the end of each module and remember if the answer choice “all of the above” is available....that’s the correct answer

Went to L3 in DFW. It's not full blow off, but it's not exactly riveting material. Try to stay awake is my best advice. They will spoon-feed you everything you need to know to check the boxes - because after all, the CTP course IS just box checking. If you just remember if there's an answer option for all of the above, that's the answer to half (or more) of the questions on the final. (You'll see what I'm talking about by the end of day 1.) You will have to try seriously hard to fail the test at the end of ground school. Like intentionally miss every question...it's designed so you can't fail. Most of the questions are extremely easy common sense aviation questions you've been asked a hundred times by now in your aviation training. Our entire class scored 100's or high 90's. It's pretty much about butt-in-seat participation. Outside of that, do your Sheppard Air because that's all that really matters. In fact, bring it to class and work on it during ground school, and you'll be set with no sweat.

Sims are fun, no pressure. Enjoy it. If you've never flown a jet, you'll learn a few things. If you have, don't be afraid to ask instructor to do some things you'd like to work on. There's a syllabus to follow on sim 1, but the rest of the time, we had fun with it.

Don't take my advice as incentive to slack off, but even your instructor will tell you this is pretty dry, repetitive stuff, and studying the ATP written exam is more important than being a star student in CTP ground school. Show up, cooperate, and graduate.

Whatever's left after the airlines pick apart the primo slots. Expect to burn some midnight oil. We had 0000-0400 a couple times.

You will get assigned a time anywhere from 0600 to 2400. Keep in mind show time is typically 1.5 to 2 hours before SIM start time, so you could show as early as 0400. From 0400 to 0600 the sims are down for Maint, so you won't be in them then.

You will not know your SIM time until the day before.
