Bonus Payback?

Just curious if anyone knows how paying Republic back the sign on bonus works? Do I have the ability to pay monthly ? Don’t really have $10k laying around to give it back right now. I read somewhere they will take $100 a month is this still holding true.

Also are they going to go back and update my W2s to adjust my income? I don’t see it being fair me paying back earned money then still having to pay taxes on it as income. At this point it’s just a loan.

One more question, where do I send my letter of resignation to? Just the chief pilot/assistant ?

I’m sure they will send a letter asking for the full amount, but they will take payments. I would let the CP know and then email the main HR email address. They are sensitive to pilots calling off on last trip, but really it’s only a issue if you wanted to come back.

Be very careful with the amount you payback

I answered this question in a previous post https://www.airlinepilotforums.com/2588234-post16.html

Basically what you pay back depends if you are paying it all back in the same year that you received it or not. It is more complicated if you pay it back in a different tax year from when it was included in your W2.

I don’t plan on calling out, just wanted to know if they are gonna be ok with me paying a minimum amount each month until I can afford to pay.

Can I cash in my PDOs or does that look bad ?

How about you tell republic and their stupid little scheme to shove it. I guess it’s too much to ask someone to be able to live like a real adult and support a family. I guess get your attorney involved but this is ridiculous that we have to even talk about this. Do you think Bedford pays money back to people? He declared banckruptcy! The fact that I have to even sit here and type this out is insane.

:D haha that made me laugh. You know I was thinking the same thing ,how many creditors did republic screw over when they went into bankruptcy:rolleyes:

I wish I could but honestly I think they would take legal action or at least report it to a collection agency. Ive read up on other airlines normally just "forget" about it but don't think thats the case with Republic.

It’s a contract, so yes you should follow it, especially since they’re giving out 17.5K. Guaranteed they will report it to your credit report, probably bug you for years. BTW Envoy does the exact same thing, if you leave before the minimum per the contact. Sun Country has sued in local court in MN, so yeah it’s possible republic could take you to court.

But if you’re paying something, I seriously doubt they would. I flew with a guy who quite at 10 months, and he had put the bonus in the bank, so he cut Republic a check when he quite. If you negotiate a payment plan, BLUF; I doubt they put it on your CR.

Yes because Suncountry puts you on the map. The standard is American, Delta, United, Southwest, UPS and FedEx. I’ll give a little love to JetBlue and Spirit. It’s supposed to be a job where you provide your services and the money flows from them to you. Just pay the salary and be done with it. These little deals and pay back agreements are nothing more than an embarrassment.

I personally know 4 pilots there and have chatted with a few on here, and they all say nothing good. The only good thing I see is you get to drive to work if you life in MN. Most FOs at republic would take a pay cut the first year, anc that’s probably why my buddy drives for Uber and Bartends. Oh and it’s a training contract at SY, so much worse then being forced to pay back a cash bonus IMHO.

Agreed the money should be in the hourly rate, but that’s not the norm at any regional. All the “respectable” regionals offer bonuses. Lyft will probably result in some type of training contract at republic. Hopefully people educate themselves.
