LGA is at several months of reserve right now for the record. Don't know exactly how much right now, but I'm smack in the middle of it looking at rsv until spring flying uptick.

This is insightful. Does this mean that a junior pilot may hold a line during the busy spring/summer travel months, then wind up back on reserve during the fall?

I would expect that over 6 months newhire FO bases may see enough seniority list progression to hold a line after flying decreases. Senior FO bases like IAH, ORD or MIA or junior captains could see fewer lines during slow months, sending the most junior lineholders back to reserve.

Is this accurate? If so, the old "shortest time to hold a line" is relative to the time of year a pilot hits the line.

You are not wrong. I usually don't bother answering questions on here on how long it takes to hold a base and how long does it take to hold a line because answering them is pointless due to how fast it changes. By the time you finish training its all going to be different any way.

As a matter of fact, there were a few bases over the Spring and Summer that had zero FO reserves due to increased lines that they had to bring in out of base reserves or use Captains in the right seat.

I believe the zero FO reserve scenario is going to become rarer in the future. We are bringing in more FOs then ever before. However, as of yet we have not acquired or bought any new aircraft. Because of this I expect to see Reserve times increase across that board. This will continue until we either A. get more aircraft or B. slow down new hiring. When either of these will happen I do not have a clue.
