Base options?

So I’m a west coast guy...born, raised, college. Majority of my family is west coast but I’m honestly thinking of going to Republic. The logical thing geographically speaking would be Skywest, but I love the culture at Republic and how everyone in the company has treated me (I’ve been a cadet for a year now). I’ve done the Skywest cadet gig but they rubbed me the wrong way.

With that, I’ve never lived past the Rockies so I’d like some insight on what bases are the “best.” What’s the good, the bad, the ugly? What base should I look into when I’ve never lived anywhere near these cities let alone been to? Not looking to commute so I’d live in base. Thanks for your two cents.

I’ve been to Indy several times and really liked it. Cost of living will be much lower than both coasts and you get a “big city” feel without having to sit in hours of traffic. I would imagine that Columbus and Pit are somewhat similar. The further towards the coast you go the more expensive it gets.

With that being said, what didn’t you like about Skywest?

I was considering ind or cmh, I’m used to big cities and don’t mind them, that said I want to avoid lga at all costs.

For SKW, felt like I was talking to a used car salesmen when I went to slc. All I got was a sales pitch of “we are Skywest and we’re the best.”

Sucks that Skywest is the only decent west coast option. But atleast he’s gonna get a place with a union. That’s enough for a lot of people

It’s all very relative but IMHO Indy doesn’t have that big city feel to me. After living in places like Chicago, London, Houston and Miami, and spending a lot of time in some of Asia’s mega cities (HKG, PVG, SZX, CAN, BKK, KUL) Indy feels very small.

Ihavenoidea is right about the traffic though! It pales in comparison to those I mentioned. It’s also somewhat close to Chicago if you do actually want to go to a big city. Another nice thing about Indy is it does have fairly decent weather in terms of all four seasons and little wind most days.

Glad I'm not the only one that felt that way about SKW.

When they told me in the interview at the final sitdown in the other room that "You did a great job, so I guess we will offer you a job" The dude had said it in the most ****ty and conceited way.

Two years later, jokes on him I'm loving it here, the pay, contract, and most of the crews are awesome. Can't believe I even had it down to the wire between RPA and SKW looking back.

Same experience here with them. Total conceited jerks. Starting with their power point presentation. So so happy I’m here.

Granted I already had a CJO with RPA when I went to SLC, that whole day I really just wanted to leave. Best this and best that! They really are "SkyBest." What was funny was how they said they had the BEST non-rev benefits. When I asked what they were they said something like if you're DFW base you only get American and United. How is that better than RPA's when we get all three no matter what??
