any new hire should take into account the washout rate, the upgrade washout rate and the recurrent washout rate. How come an airline on the AQP program has had so many failures in the past 12 months? Or are these only rumors?

Some CKA love to brag about their $300K/year pay thanks to all the retraining they have been doing recently. Fake news?

From what they say, washout rate is much higher than Endeavor, Envoy or PSA who seem to have more established AQP program where candidate are "trained to proficiency"?

We have a 10%-15% washout rate in the new hire classes. This comes from a management meeting we had in our class. Our AQP is train to proficiency as well. I’m currently in the EFPT’s right now and if you botch let’s say a present position hold you’ll receive a 1. You’ll get trained to proficiency and pass it.

Wow. That’s about as accurate as CNN’s Brian Stelter, or a NY Times editorial source.

Fact? I sat in the seat next to with the Chicago FSDO’s CMO Manager on a flight from IND-ORD after the Regional Airline InfoShare held at Republic’s Training Training facility last summer. This former UAL B777 pilot’s assessment of Republic’s Training was remarkable. “Tip of the spear in training” was his comment. PDT’s POI was in Republic’s Training Center this Summer watching the a crew in Upgrade training on an EFPT. Again, all positive remarks.

Republic does have a high bar for training completion. There is a set time expectation for Initial SIM with Supplemental Breakout Training allowances. You go to a review Board if you need more time and it is usually granted. Republic wants its pilots to succeed and the culture is pro-pilot.

Other carriers, which I will not name, give unlimited SIM or IOE allowances, some up to 125 hours of IOE. Yes, 125 hours.

What does that do for Republic? Nothing, but highly qualified pilots and a crazy attrition rate, about 1-1.5 pilots per day/per month moving on to other carriers.

We did have new hire classes in September. I know for a fact there were classes that started on 9/10, 9/17 and 9/24. ;)

Thanks for the correction. I hadn't seen them on the seniority list and had heard something about us creating some temporary space for CKA training.

Probably as good an opportunity as any to say that I'm not speaking in any official capacity, just as a line pilot who would have liked to have a similar thing available when I was looking around.

There are bound to be errors in my post (I already found that I accidentally omitted MCI when listing our hubs), and I will try to correct them as able.

Agreed. A lot of junior CA’s alone are making close to 140-150 if they’re busting their ass and/or working the system.

It's going to get even better come Jan 1st with that nice little pay raise for CAs.

This is 100% fallacy. You’ll find this information most likely comes directly from the washouts. It’s difficult to accept the responsibility of your own failures, so bashing the training department is the easier route.

I can’t say much about the new hire classes, but we’re talking about 121 initial training. 99% of the applicants are coming from outside 121 flying so it’s anybody's guess as to how successful they’ll be. Put in the effort and you will be fine. Republic likes students that work hard, shut up and essentially just do what you’re told to put it bluntly. If you follow those simple instructions you’ll magically end up successful. The training department does give “2nd chances” but the program is very strict with how those are conducted. Basically if you can’t keep up with the train, you’re probably going to get sent home (there’s plenty of people behind you). Attitude is everything though, so take note about when I said “keep your mouth shut” and take the constructive criticism. This is where you don’t want to show your Type A pilot personality.

Upgrade classes come in waves. Some classes have lots of failures and some have no failures. My class had no failures, but I came in with the threat of failing because that’s what we were told from one of the previous classes. Found out the failing ones are the people that expect hand holding again and essentially paid no attention to any PIC duties for their 2-3 years as an FO. Plenty of time to get those PIC repetitions in from the right seat. Expect the “fire hose” again. Once that PowerPoint slide goes away, you’ll never see that material again during class, it’s all on you. Don’t blame the training department, again this is 121 training.

On a side note, YES you will find that Republic has that minor select few instructors and CKA that may give you an unfair chance. I personally have not encountered that yet, but I’d be willing to bet that every company has these special ones.

I will be trying to get PHL base, I know it’s a small base and with PSA closing CVG base, is that going to have an effect with republic and longevity of PHL base?

I don't think anyone here really knows the answer to that, but I can't imagine PSA closing a base will have much effect, if any, on a Republic base in a different city. PSA's flying isn't decreasing, just being shifted around, at least as best I know.

PHL is our smallest base, and is arguably the one with the most question marks at the moment. That's not to say anything one way or the other, but it is small and therefore more sensitive to minor fluctuations.

That's so funny. Just curious, how many Training Review Boards did we have in 2019? How many of those involved new hires and captain recurrent or captain upgrades. It's been raining pink slips since Summer 2018 here.
But yes, of course, new hires and upgrade candidates are "not good enough, did not study, unprepared, not serious, millennial, entitled" :D

“...did not study...” - actually can be documented through ETHOS

“...unprepared...” - evident and documented through SV and PV

“...not serious...” - very, very, rare

“...millennial, entitled...” - actually, would be unwise to turn them away. RPA would rather train them and teach them. We need them.

(Not listed) Sour grapes...Sonny, is that you?...and welcome to APC.
