Both yoke mounted pitch trim switches can be deferred as long as the backup switch on the center console is operable. The original statement sounds as if the entire pitch trim system was deferred.

And it sounds like this was more than a trim runaway issue if they had to separate the flight controls, but no need for speculation.
Sounded like they just said it was sourced to the FOs side

Wow, both? That doesn't sound very enjoyable.

No not really. PSA though with some frequency is featured in the aviation herald so I see where you are coming from.

https://flightaware.com/live/flight/...204Z/KATL/KATL

Two minutes after takeoff, they're climbing through 7,200 feet doing decelerating toward 160 knots in a tight right turn according to FlightAware. -- Wow, that's a pants sh*tting moment for sure.

Starting that turn pronto to re-orient their lift vector away from the moon could have been what saved their bacon and gave them the time needed to run the QRH and handle the emergency.

I hope the details of this event are eventually put out to the pilot group so everyone can learn from it.

Good job by the crew!
