Originally 2nd half of 2020, I heard they’ve been deferred to 2021. Don’t expect to ever see them.

Default New airplanes

My uneducated bet is we traded them for extra flying or for airplanes now instead of a few months. Same with the A220’s that were ordered.
Who knows. We will wait and see.

Is that indicative of potential problems in the future or is Republic just adjusting to constantly changing demands? Overall, it seems like most pilots on here, at Republic, are satisfied with the company (seemingly moreso than pilot groups of a lot of other regionals) but all the talk of airplanes scheduled to arrive, while rumors suggest otherwise, has me confused about the overall direction/long-term health of the company.

While staffing the new planes would likely present issues, the real non-starter is that 76-seaters are pretty much scoped out for all of the legacies. Unless one of the mainline pilot groups vote to relax their scope clause, there will be no one to fly the new jets for.

One of two things has to happen for Republic to take these planes...

1. Scope is relaxed by one of the majors.
2. A deal is worked out where the 69/70 seat E170s being flown for DL and UA are converted to 65 seats for AA. Similar to the CRJ550 (E165?). In that case the new planes would be E175SCs in a 70 seat config for UA and DL.

There are 59 E170s being flown for DL/UA so that would take up a significant amount of the order.

They could possibly be replacements which I feel like will happen at least for right now.

Someone was talking about that kind of concept not too long ago. Allegedly, the AA scope limitation is limited to seats, not weight, so dropping to 65 seats for AA theoretically is as easy as removing seats.
United also needed to duck a max weight clause in its scope agreement, which is why the CRJ550 required a new certificate.

Why do some of the YX jets in AA paint have a dark grey square where "Operated by Republic" normally goes on the nose? Recently bought or soon to be sold?
