we were on the ground last night in ATL and there was a Brickyard Flight 4439 in distress. Just wanted to see if everyone was okay

Believe it or not this stuff happens at all airlines with some frequency.

Pitch trim runaway on take off (Pitch Trim was deferred before flight) Crew did an amazing job.

You can’t defer pitch trim..................

And it sounds like this was more than a trim runaway issue if they had to separate the flight controls, but no need for speculation.

I'm on the 145, so I guess that makes us cousins, but a single yoke mounted pitch trim switch can be MELd with us. Same for you? Might explain that deferral statement more clearly.
